OpenLinkNight 10 ~ dVersePoets

It's been a super busy week, but there was no way I was going to miss Brian Miller hosting our first double digit OpenLinkNight at the dVerse Poets Pub.  This is a raw, unedited word jumble, and I do apologize for typos and misprints..I am looking forward to life returning to my definition of normal soon, and while I won't be graced with much reading and commenting time over the next couple days, I do have the best of intentions for catching up and once again finding my flow.  Forgive me my imperfect prose...but I couldn't miss the grand entrance into the double digits (Yes, all you dVersePoets have been introduced to yet another one of my many and varied quirks...I'll save the explaining for another time!)  Here's to you Poets, the Poetry you write and the awesome Pub where we share our words.  Did someone say strawberry wine?  One glass can't hurt! ;)

Who Dares to Think?

Who will play the role
of our next great thinker?
Does he walk amongst us now,
ready to change the world,
with no one listening?

Who will take the role
of our next great god speaker?
Does she write words of wisdom
in dime store notebooks
with no courage to share?

Christ's blood ran from cross to earth
while we stood round, content to watch
He was a great thinker
who we felt compelled to crucify.

Who would be so bold
as to take charge of such beasts?
Who's heart is strong enough?
Who's voice will tease us to listen?

Who will be the first to admit
we've been left to our own devices
For far too long?

Awesome questions in truesome defintion of the word.

Strong tempo and smart delivery.

I love this! Some try to think for us, while the best thinkers merely seek to inspire us to think for ourselves. We've far too many of the former, but we certainly could use one of the latter.

wow - these are big questions - i used to know the answers to them back when i used to consume copius amounts of that strawberry red lol.

i like the fact the you ask such things tash - because it allows me to know your virtues - and they appear to be true and innocent or at least hopeful and that can be a rare quality - i envy your honesty and sincerity - it is your gift.

brave and authentic - the 2 essential aspects for a blogger who wants to be heard

I do wonder if there is anyone to rise up. Sometimes I think we'll all have to rise up together to make something new out of this mess. Sorry to rant. Great questions, and I hope things settle down for you soon :)

Natasha, if this is spur of the moment work you would never know it--it has the feel of something that's come from the depths with great authority--and the questions you pose are spot on--who is going to lead with wisdom and truth? You are certainly doing your part, anyway. Hope your job and life settle down a bit soon.

Great questions, and, maybe, there are many small greatnesses, just as there are many small truths. Not ONE, but many.

A question for the ages, as the crap still rages and we find not a single one, I think it will take a ton. But there could be an act that brings on a Face it Fact and who knows what they would bring, a nice double digit ring.

How long? I think too many have lashed themselves to the mast with wax in their ears, to resist the siren song. Thank you for the thought provoking read and take good care of yourself through these hectic times.

Thought provoking penning, Tashtoo... tho' not sure it was 'us' that nailed an individual who lived about 2,000 years ago named Yeshua Ben Yosef to a wooden cross. Or 'them' or anyone else alive now... sins of the father I can't take on that (aren't we all individuals? I'm nothing like my family. And should I feel guilty for the British involvement in the Slave Trade? No way. I'd have killed myself by now, don'tcha think?). Maybe a rhetorical 'us' but I get very careful around 'us and them' dialogue and generalisations... no matter, it's a fine poem. Otherwise it wouldn't have caused me do start discussing it :)

Hey big love your way

You certainly have put your finger on the grand question. We cry out for truth and leadership while drowing in our cynicism.

So honestly true! Sometimes I've wondered who is our next Einstein, who is the next Billy Graham? And I've thought the same thing: there is none, we are alone, left to our own devices.... but no, because I look around and see the amazing things that are happening in all areas of science and society. Today we all carry little tiny devices in our pockets that are more powerful, more capable than the elite computer that helped guide three astronauts to the moon in 1969.... Our genius scientists and inspirational leaders ARE here, I think we just don't celebrate them as we once did...... Tashtoo your lines about Christ's dying and us watching was fitting and absolutely beautiful here......
"We are the ones we've been waiting for."

Big questions… I think we need to look within, though, and not without. Like your great thinker and god speaker maybe we are speaking and no one hears or we are afraid to speak...but speak we must, every one of us. It's the power of us finding our voice and working together that will save us. Perhaps we have to forgive ourselves…for many things done and not done before we can reclaim our power.

Thank you for making me think Natasha. And thank you for thinking and finding as well as sharing your voice.

The quote above says it all for me. I see it said it came from the Hopi, but Alice Walker says it came from her poet friend June Jordan who wrote it in the poem “Poem for South African Women” which you can find here http://junejordan.com/ under her portfolio of work.

The link is to an excerpt from Alice Walker’s book “We are the Ones
We Have Been Waiting For” and explains where the quote came from and what it means to her. Great book and I highly recommend it.

I think what bothers me most is the number of people who refuse, or aren't capable, of thinking for themselves anymore. They look to some great leader or thinker to guide them, but maybe they should learn to use their own talents, take the world into their own hands....quite thought-provoking.

do you know of the film " life of Brian" -Monty Python? If not, you should see it. There is a seen where a crowd of followers are outside Brian's (the "messiah") house. He says to them " you are all individuals"; the followers yell simultaneously "yes! We are all individuals". Then, one man in the crowd says "I'm not..."

Important questions...
A very good question. Definitely not me.
