Meeting the Bar~Genocide & Forced Ascension

Genocide And Forced Ascension

Separate yet infinitely connected
bulbous yet divine tentacles dancing

Stretching over azure waterways
busting through ancient stone formations.

It is constant communication with no purpose
available to each and every one

every citizen, every pod, every habitat
festering as every cycle wilts

vibrancy bleeds as even oxygen is manufactured
stale and undernourished

rotation after rotation, light phase to darkness
when they wake doomed to repeat

Inhaling toxic vapors through orifices
into flesh, into organs, into mind

consuming laboratory experiments as sustenance
yet still, somehow, they exist

to the determent of their true creator
as they seek conversation with mystical wonderment

to the determent of every living being
the citizen becomes consumed with desire

to protect self, and self only
to somehow defend what was never owned

to lay claim to that that will be left behind to rot
upon his forced and untimely ascension.

Today sees the wonderful poet Samuel Peralta visiting the pub for Meeting the Bar, and he has challenged us to take a look at our world and our words a little bit differently.  Stop on by dVerse to have a read of the wonderful article and raise your own pen to the challenge.

Hi Tash, I find this a very hard prompt, though I loved Samuel's article. You've risen to the challenge though. K.

Tash, you really bringbin elements of movies that create a threatening sense of doom. You caught the spirit of the prompt and pulled together jagged images and themes that pull together in a wonderful montage.

inhaling toxic vapors through orifices does not sounds fun at all...and tentacles looks a whole lot like another words when you are reading too fast...just saying...slowing down now....smiles...and when it all becomes about self...the battles really begin...

I read this a few times and could see different metaphors each time... This was really deep and I kept thinking how toxic the world is around us... how we can be very toxic to our selves... Just my thoughts:)

LOL Giggling at Brian's remark about tentacles looking like a whole new word...LOL
You certainly rose to the challenge, much more so than my effort :)

This section is my favorite, Tash:

"vibrancy bleeds as even oxygen is manufactured
stale and undernourished

rotation after rotation, light phase to darkness
when they wake doomed to repeat"

Excellent piece.
Hey!this is deep. I got a sense of mans inability to realise his place in the world- seeing himself as something more than a part of the planet- and that ultimately his foolishness will lead to his demise- and the planet will be in a better place!...awesome use of words- rolled of the tongue. On an aside- im secretly glad that your piece is quite 'heavy'- mine is a little- and everyone else's seem so much more fun! ah well- here's to being hardcore :)

LOL I did the same thing as Brian
I hope you won't start sighin'
Looks like you took the prompt and made it your own
Really in the zone
Another great verse act
And that's a Face it Fact

Oh, wow, Tash! This is amazing... definitely demands to be read more than once, each time digging deeper. This sticks out to me:

to the determent of every living being
the citizen becomes consumed with desire
to protect self, and self only
to somehow defend what was never owned

War of the Worlds! Indeed a forced ascension and who can understand the earth life phenomena of every cell programmed to protect itself against death at all costs. Life on earth must be so precious and possibly so rare. Well written and truly a new viewpoint and insight. Excellent, Ms. Natasha!!!
Loved this! So many layers, I've found something new each time I've read through it...about to go do it again :)

From the spiderweb of our electrical and communications networks (tentacles), to the manufactured and genetically-engineered foods (laboratory experiments), you've taken the Martian technique to heart and pushed yourself to the limits here, with a very theme as ambitious as the challenge. Well done!

This could be a road map to the Holy Grail, no less! Love it.
