In the Shelter of the Carob Tree

In the shelter of the carob tree
Violet specters danced
as her almond eyed gaze
swam in the azure of the Mediterranean.

Her astral puppets waited
sensing her need,
rooting themselves in the shadows
the shelter of the Carob tree.

Sweet pulp from leathered pods;
sustenance...no cooking fire needed
as the season's insects writhed about
contorting bodies, painful death

Hack went her blade, in search of more
and still the specters danced
making shadows comes to life
in the shelter of the Carob tree.

No fruit such as lemons to season
No meat such as lamb to roast
just the pulp hidden within the pods
among the shelter of the Carob tree

Her body now fed, her almond eyes bright
her spectral army gathers
as the disturbing image of their warrior princess
comes to life in the shelter
of the Carob tree.

It's Monday Melting Week 10...and this week I was able to make it! Come have a look at Shawna's list and see if you can't do me one better. Ten words...come on!

Oh my, is this phrase a tongue twister: "almond eyed gaze" :)

This sounds yummy to me: "just the pulp hidden within the pods"

But the ending is definitely my favorite:

"as the disturbing image of their warrior princess
comes to life in the shelter
of the Carob tree"

Well fed, she comes to life ... and is a force to be reckoned with. Such a fun scene to envision, "shelter" taking on a new meaning as they hide from her. I like the power in this, Tash. Nice.

Thanks for playing!

Well done! I saw those words and mainly kept thinking about how my children complained about carob!

You bypass that so well! I love the swish of movement here, and shelter.

With all these fairy tales flying around, yours seems to have some of that flavor. Delicious. I think research is a huge chunk of the writing fun. Aren't those carob pods interesting. Enjoyed the poem. :)
