NaPoWriMo ~ 06.04.12 ~ Suit Cases

It's battered and worn
once hot pink
now faded to the color
of the chalk we swallow
to relieve the pain
brought on by the ulcers
I have packed away.

This one is brown
fake snake skin
as though I would ever
carry such a tote
Here we see collected
all the promises never made
bottles of potions and pain
cures and elixirs
The stuff of bad ad copy
and capitalist ambitions
Thank god that time has passed!

Ah, sunny yellow
Much smaller than the others
Seems sunny days were few.
Seashells of memories
post cards of dreams
hope
wishes
and rainbows neatly folded

And now the biggest of all
cold black steel
icy
locked up tight
and inside
a pillow lining
silken
soft
a bed for the most important of tokens
one that must be well packed
secured
each chamber carefully nestled
tucked far, far, away
pushed to the back of the closet
buried beneath Christmas decorations
and the beasts of All Hallows eve
My heart beats safer
when she is well hidden.
