Photo~ Tracey Grumbach

To simply slip into the drink
gives time to pause and time to think
while waves caress your tired toes
the white caps cause worries to sink

To lose yourself in dusk's high tide
where dreams and hopes start to collide
with wishes and heart's true longing
It's where the truth of you resides

The sound of freedom in gulls lone cry
a silhouette against darkening sky
Where clouds tell stories and shadows dance
to melodies that make you sigh.

It's sand now cooling with no sun
to bury the fears that make you run
where castles crumble at end of day
and whispers what you may have become

Truth on the wind upon the shore
this blanket of sand, a goddess floor
Where all you are can finally soar
washed in the tide, returning pure.

smiles...not only that but you are rubaiyat crazy again to day....smiles...nice form...the truth of you, i def would not mind a trip upon that shore and maybe a dip in the water for more...to read the clouds as they float by and watch the fire burst alive once more...toes in the water, toes in the sand, not a worry in the world...sorry to burst into song...i got lost in the moment...smiles. happy saturday tash

There is definitely something very relaxing and refreshing about swimming at dusk. Your poem captures the feelings majestically.

You nailed the image clean through, Tashtoo. Growth is always about taking steps into feared regions, and this poem assures the speaker that she is loved and will not fall. That sort of assurance is so important ... Your meter is impeccable, finely wrought. -- Brendan

I tried to comment earlier via Twitter but something happened... anyway, this is really beautiful, Tash.

Intriguing form... Need to look into that one! *smiles* So many feelings surface for me when reading this, especially in combination with a photograph that brings back childhood memories en masse! Beautiful!

Careful and thoughtful metaphor of a relationship to surf, sand and sea. Wonderfully realized. Thank you.

Your spirit seems to join with the sea in this one. I am hopeless to write in this form. My kudos to you for writing it so beautifully.

This has a gentleness of awareness that seems like advice of a parent to a child, either dwelling on the possibility of the child's life or the parent's own life in relationship to the child.

As it is, the poem has that loving kindness and tender song that creates the space of human relationship, bringng us closer to those we love. Your craft is especially apparent, as hedgewitch notes, in how wonderfully you've handled the form.

I love the poem, the form, but mostly the passion in which you communicated to the one you were thinking. It was like listening in a private thought, and impressive because you had such insight. Someone has to care to know someone like you describe. That speaks volumes of tribute to the writer as well as the subject. Very well done and enjoyed.

I think most of us who write find our freedom by the water or, in the air.
Lovely writing once again Tash

There you go again with those rubaiyats! But oh, so wonderful to dip your toe in that crystal and infinite ocean, with just that edge of light defining the horizon in the distance. You can definitely lose youself in the words and the moment.
Oh my gosh, the last stanza. That is what I want...I want to finally soar, returning pure...

Thank you so much for using my image for inspiration. It was quite an honor. :)
This rubaiyat is quite addictive, isn't it? And you seem to feel really comfortable with it.

That second stanza sung right to me and I leaned in closer to hear more. I think Henry and Charles captured some of the why of the magic of your work and I agree!

"Where clouds tell stories and shadows dance"

Beautiful. Rhythm, form. Your poem is inseparable from the picture--it was meant to be! Thank you.
You've got this form nailed! Awesome poem about the spirituality of the sea. I'm by the sea right now- such an awe inspiring place- so thought provoking, and like your great poem- makes us reflective and glad to be alive
