A fave pen wielder, Mr. Joe Hesch will be manning the bar, and poetry will be on tap! Join us at 3pmEST over at dVersePoets when Joe will be swinging the doors wide in welcome!

Touch the Sky

Why is it, if one decides to change the course of their life
though it has only been half lived
they meet with resistance?

Why is it, we reach certain milestones
and some remain content
to stop dreaming?

I want to play with finger paints
and fashion rainbows where skies are blank.
I want to dance the ledge
in defiance of these man-made barriers we impose.

If I had wings to fly
I would do more than touch the sky...
I would make my nest in a cloud
and dream of spun sugar defenses...

While people my own age
shake their heads
and go about their 9 to 5

I will not let myself...
that little piece of me
be chewed up and devoured
in the name of growing up.

I know where the dragons hide,
and I confess I do have wings.

Thanks to Brian Miller for the inspiration...loved his piece Dragons...and Other Things We Forget...check it out!

I agree. I think at any age one can re-invent oneself, change direction, climb mountains, and even give oneself permission to FLY!

Fantastic write to a great photo. That third stanza is outstanding! I especially enjoy the lines: "I want to play with finger paints
and fashion rainbows where skies are blank."

And that ending is perfect.

Ah I live this !! Always felt that way and this is the first I've seen it captured in a poem. Love it!
A reminder that we should all fly! Beautifully done!

and
I will not let myself...

Totallly get this Tash- in fact I get it every day...I hate being sucked into the adult world....so complicated- well....not comlplicated- just full of bullshit and ridiculousness!!!... For me this poem conjures up a feel of excitement that I not wish could be bottled - and never- ever- hang up those wings!

Tash, I love this poem! I love the spirit of ever-dreaming. We must meet the resistance to change and dreaming with strength and stubborness to carry on with the dream. Peace, Linda

An unexpected, but uniquely well-thought out, response to the picture. And what a response! An underlining of self-determination, of being in control - no matter what - of the destiny that lies before us; and a reminder that, whatever happens, we can fly.

Tash, such pertinent questions to start with and shy not touch the sky. We should live our lives with the innocence and curiosity of children. There are too many barriers and boxes we are placed in. I must break free....:)

I want to dance the ledge

What a great image, and I agree with Claudia, if you know where the dragons live I'd love to know. I've got some beautiful shiny things I'd be willing to trade for a day in their midst :).

This is one I can definitely identify with, as can probably a lot of your readers. Probably one reason many of us took up poetry. I have felt a creative explosion in the last couple years after spending my time since college forgetting about my dreams.
