PlayDaTe ~OpenLinkNight~@dVersePoets

I will not be defined by your current state of mind.
My self will not be caged
No matter your degree, or your philosophy

I will not commit, promise not to trip
if a new thought appeals
Strip away the tried and true
does this cause discomfort...for you?

Let's talk...really talk
Tell me...why do these ideas
make you squirm

Is it because your daddy told you not to play that way,
or does it make your mama nervous?

Let's be big together
grow up and stand as adults
Let's bust out the real Tonka's
I'll show you how to drive
To tempt death yet return alive

Let's build a universe with Lego
build it up, then let it go
Let's stomp neighborhoods
like they never mattered
Pretend we're one of them...

Does your conscious cry like mine
even though it's only make believe?

Are YOU ready to receive
this truth, this proof

Let's kick back
draw the smoke from the hookah
and get sly-eyed and crazy
while we feast with the Cheshire cat
counting our fat stacks
...laid back
I know you like it like that...

Monkey after monkey
we're all connected
no matter which barrel we call home...

Can you handle it...Man?
Tinsmith heart may be all you got,
but take a seat 'neath my shroom
trust me, there's room

NOW...let's REALLY talk...

Oh, we're in for a magical evening of poetry when @Hedge_Witch (AKA Joy) opens up dVerse for OpenLinkNight tomorrow...and dang it all, tell me it's not awesome to have your poem ready and waiting! Hoping to see you all at the pub!

'get sly-eyed and crazy
while we feast with the Cheshire cat' Yes please! Take those ideas out of the box and rearrange what's possible in the world, you always spark my fire :).

Stupendously witty, silly and wise and lots more things. Don't know how you dream these up. Dated slang but apt: wicked!.
Loved this! Great sense of how these words sound together--at least for me--would love to hear this one read aloud!

Let's REALLY talk....for me this was a challenge to all those who talk the talk but don't walk the walk...maybe those who are afraid of the discussion, the opinions- safer that way I guess- but safe ..... Could tell this was raw and real and from the heart- you,ve been spilling it darker just recently Tash - and I'm sorry- but I'm loving it (sorry if I'm off the mark with my interpretation!)- can you handle it maaaann....ha ha- felt the sarcasm- lapping it up!
Loved every step of the way with this. I loved the path to its end. Whoever you takes you up on the challenge, I envy!

I love the playfulness of this one!

This stanza really speaks to me:

"Monkey after monkey
we're all connected
no matter which barrel we call home"

Lots to love in this, Natasha--the adult/child, self/other, social/personal contrast, then are all nicely woven together for maximum impact in that big rope you're dropping into the conversational chasm. I truly think talking is an important solution tpo a lot of problems--people should learn to do it better.

Never disappointed when I come here. Any write that includes the Cheshire Cat gets my approval.

Wow. I love this. The voice of it reminds me of my On Poets.

This especially. But I'm partial to any mention of the Cheshire Cat.

"draw the smoke from the hookah
and get sly-eyed and crazy
while we feast with the Cheshire cat"

Luv the attitude. Take charge, girl. Such a confident voice. Sounds like you own all of Eastern Canada. I listened to a rock recording by Joan Jett a friend wanted me to hear yesterday. She wanted me to work on translating attitude better. That is what your poem reminded me of. I am very impressed. You rock. literally.

Really enjoyed the conversational and at times confrontational tone of this, calling somebody out on their talk and showing them how to really throw it down.Nice.

Inspiring indeed. Can't imagine any man being unwilling to sign up for the roller-coaster ride you're promising. I was belted-up and ready to go before I'd read half way.
Quite simply brilliant, Natasha.

Fabulous! Teasing, tempting, cajoling, pushing to grow up - transforming all those kids' toys. I'm reminded of Joni Mitchell's "Strange Boy". Really love this.

its always a struggle to stay off the beaten paths I think.

and i just love the opening lines. its good to keep our character depending on our emotions than another person's state of mind. some situation do warrant a little change though...
