Wednesday Wake-Up @NWCreativeUnion

We live to fight another day
waging war
on drugs
on crime
on that that we don't understand
though no sincere effort has been made to even try.

We live to spend another day
going broke
for bread
for milk
for shelter
for rags so when we dance in the rain that still falls freely
at least we aren't dancing naked.

We live together
yet allow our differences to separate
rather than celebrate
our uniqueness
the things that make us tick
unity's the trick
but we don't get it.

Drowning in a mob mentality
questioning what it means to be free
not realizing
the illusion it has always been
when your bred to lose
not to win.

Competition
Greed
these are the new religions
don't confuse the definition of capitalism
with our off-base interpretation.
In theory
perfection
In the hands of men...
genocide

We're all in this together
and we need to start talking.
Tolerance
does not mean acceptance
indifference
can kill.

Responding to Roger's Wednesday Wake-Up over at the New World Creative Union where we're opening up a dialogue and asking you to lend your voice, your pen, your brush, your camera...what needs changing, how can we bring it about? For what it's worth...I think we need some changing!

Due to time constraints and an unexpectedly busy evening and day ahead, I'm also posting to dVerse for Victoria's Stream of Consciousness prompt for MeetingTheBar...I couldn't miss it!

another strong piece. The mob mentality line I love and the bit about dancing in the rain.
'Tolerance does not mean acceptance'
a very intriguing line to contemplate

bang bang...lost of hard emo in this one...and some great zingers in your commentary on many areas of life...

We live together
yet allow our differences to separate
rather than celebrate
our uniqueness
been there, and its not a fun place to fight your way out of, but can be done....

Tolerance is def not acceptance and is far from LOVE...which makes the world spin, you know...

Competition Greed these are the new religions don't confuse the definition of capitalism with our off-base interpretation. In theory perfection In the hands of men... genocide

dang that is hot like a poker left in the fire to brand the backsides of cattle always looking for a new gate...

great write poet...and this will even work for MTB later you know...

Good job! I really like how you call out competitive greed as the new religion, that's right on the mark of epiphany! You are so right with that specific point, and it's so well put here. TY!

I'm glad you couldn't miss dVerse and definitely understand the business. I so agree with you in that our differences should never be a cause for separation but for enrichment. Poetry is such a good tool for calling attention to issues of importance.

heck yes...you're right..and you're on a roll..love the subjects you tackle so bravely ms poetess...lots of things we still don't get...frightening sometimes..wondering sometimes where this will all lead to...
but....dancing naked in the rain is not so bad at all...for other reasons though...smiles

What a thought-provoking, amazing piece ... favourite line (as it is many others, I know) Tolerance does not mean acceptance ... as one who has always prided herself on being a tolerant person (and we all know where pride goeth, yes?) - it has given me pause ... very good work Tash.

Great piece which gives us reasons for thought and how we contribute to the failure in our society. Change begins right in the four walls we live in. If we wish the world to change, we must also seek to change what is necessary in each of us.
