The Words ~ #FormForAll @dVersePoets

Always they are there
warning
directing
instructing
all letters and symbols
pomp and circumstance
no pain, no hurt
no breath, nor romance
It is abuse
to not teach the way of the words
to not make the effort

Unseeing eyes
content with face value
don't even realize
it is they
I write about
Is it fear, perhaps
that keep them from going deeper?

Unhearing ears
so caught up in the song of self
our bodies remain disconnected
blips through the source
from which we've unplugged
Wondering
why must they roam...
alone

Through communication
we connect
through song, through testimony
through poetry and story-telling
emotions engage
hormones rage
anger erupts
propaganda corrupts
all
through the power
of words

Is it any wonder
silence = death?

Show me symbols
Show me signs
and I will show you the words
from which they were born.

What does poetry mean to me? It's a question I've yet to figure out the answer for...but NO poetry...dear GOD...I couldn't imagine.  Gay has worked a fantastic prompt at dVerse for FormForAll today...what does poetry mean to you?

Words are extremely powerful things! I wish more people would take note of what they said.
I love that silence = death
"Through communication
we connect
through song, through testimony
through poetry and story-telling
emotions engage
hormones rage
anger erupts
propaganda corrupts
all
through the power
of words"

Reminds me of the Act 1 closer in RENT, when they say "The opposite of war is not peace, it's creation."

Stellar writing, young lady!

How I would have loved to be there at the birth of those words, like stars fueling solar systems. You rightly capture their power and majesty.

Lovin' this! The end, from "Through communication...' is just over the top fantastic.

silence is death...and story telling is one of th oldest traits of people...sadly lost to time in many ways...it is how we stay alive and hope that people remember us as well...nice rip poet...

Nice to knock elbows with the undead and un-silent.

words are so powerful and if we'd stop communicating, it surely would mean death...love how you capture that tash.. silence=death gave me shivers...so true..

It's the shortest stanza that captures all aboove and below:

"Is it any wonder
silence = death?"

So words! "Always they are there"
but they need listeners who hear and lookers who see--and all of this cannot be composed any better than you have done.

I think we should print a dVerse poets' "take on poetry" book.

Words, the tools of our trade. I particularly liked the lines "we connect
through song, through testimony
through poetry and story-telling"
Well said, Tash.

I really enjoyed that Tash!
I was aiming to highlight my favourite line but there were too many!

I think you beautifully represent everything that poetry can be in this piece:

"emotions engage
hormones rage
anger erupts
propaganda corrupts
all
through the power
of words"

Words are who we are. Unrecognized they control us and make us less than who we can be. Your poem brings to bear on conscience the eternal command to recognize possibility and realize that in out lives, rage though reality will. Excellent stuff!

So many words, so much garbage in, that it becomes garbage out. People have quit listening, quit singing, quit caring..yet only when they open up and start to hear the song will they hear us..who seek to send out our little "packets" of truth. So well explored here, dear Tash. This is your "truth".
