Wood Smoke & Maple Leafs

Chasing the sun across the sky
this is the time where leaves will die
turning, burning, in maple red
an extra quilt upon your bed.

The harvest readies what it has grown
among the fields where seeds are sown
darkened skies greet dinner plate
shadows lengthen and seasons race.

The wood stove smolders, the kindling burns
as the season starts to turn
and witches race across the sky
to mark the place where summer died.

Autumn readies for what lies ahead
the pantry's full, our tummies fed
as Old Man Winter starts to climb
upon the back of Father Time.

Mary is prepping the pub as we write for her hosting debut on the dVerse stage. Sending warm waves of welcome and huge PoetLove :) I'll be tied up for most of the evening but look forward to returning to see what my favorite season has prompted from the pens of the Poets who take the stage for Poetics every week

Neat to have you write about your favorite season here, Tash. I like the image of Old Man Winter startng to climb upon the back of Father Time....but hope he holds off for a while as we enjoy the fall color and enjoy being wrapped in warm quilts.

Tash--my favorite season, too. Love it. Not so crazy about snow, though. It is, as most things are, a tradeoff--suffering through winter to enjoy the fall.

very cool Tash. The middle stanzas are perfect, really capturing so much of what is fall, but in imagery that perhaps is not thought of at first--love the witches, which I never thought of Halloween in regards to fall, but it absolutely is. the food too. Great read.

A dead summer and witches in the sky- bring on Halloween - my FAVE time of year...great form in this Tash- and that gave it a sense of trafition- which again links to the traditions of Autumn and all the deep cultural ceremonies that take place at ths time

These could be song lyrics. Caught all the magic in the change to the passion and flame of autumn..the blaze before the end! Loved it.
