Peace Out ~ #Poetics @dVersePoets

Lay down your prejudice, lay down your guns
Understand the true motivations
of your desire to dominate...rule

Like Midas your touch is golden
still you exist within an illusion.
The soul is immune to your golden touch

yet, your fingers dabble in our essence
fooled with grand tales of honor
you have somehow convinced

us to lay down and die for a country
forsaking family, forsaking morals
justifying murder, terror

awarding medals for kill count
this heart bleeds purple
for suffocation states it must.

Together...we know better
so it is a mass manipulation
altered states of consciousness

Brain washing has become an art form
and in your tower of superiority
You too have fallen prey

now believe the hype you created
drunk on power
the pastures have been left untended

with your shepherds fast asleep
the herd grows restless
your hypnotizing song stuck on shuffle

suddenly, the human is viewed beyond the threat
suddenly, we awake
to thoughts of their families, their children

stomped below the steel toes
of programmed marching boots
souls set free from this illusion

Is it possible
to agree to disagree
and have no blood spilled?

Is it possible
to see the human
and not the soldier?

Is it possible
to evolve beyond
this mad and restless state?

To see the threat for what it is
and agree to lay down our weapons,
puppets no more?

Karin (AKA @ManicDDaily) is prompting Poetics today over at dVersePoets, and because I've a full afternoon ahead, I'm taking my best stab at the prompt.  Hope it fits...Linkup goes live at 3pmEST.

some really great lines in this tash...

Like Midas your touch is golden
still you exist within an illusion....truth...and a great ref....awards for kill counts, ugh...

some great questions toward the end as well...ones that would be hard to answer considering there is little profit in peace...

perhaps if we show them how there is we can find our way forward...

i wish we could answer these questions..and wish we would find a way to keep peace.. learn to see the human, not the soldier, then we couldn't continue with those wars... and how could we ever forget..

Powerful, Tash... there's so much in this I really like, but especially-

The soul is immune to your golden touch

Yes - the soul is immune to your golden touch - but perhaps the ego isn't!

Terrible. And once the killing starts, it is harder than ever to let go of. Passionate poem. k .

I really hope that countries would find a way to disagree with no blood spilled. But since it has not happened up to this point in time, the hope seems a bit futile, unfortunately.

What especially strikes me are the questions you raise...indeed--is it possible? It just has to be.
Important questions. The ending made me think of imagine so can't be bad!

... what a strong piece.
"Brain washing has become an art form
and in your tower of superiority
You too have fallen prey"
this stood out for me - great choice of words.

If only people would refuse to fight. Love the sentiment of your poem, but my observations of people's ability to fight each other does not fill me with hope.

Tash- some political truths here...the generals never fight do they? Neither do the politicians.- yet they feel happy to talk about it so expertly. What would have if EVERYONE said NO to fighting...what would they do...what COULD they do?....absolutely nothing. One day it HAS to happen

Your soapbox shines with the sheen of truth, with the heart's blood, and your passion muscles up making your message twice effective; I hear you, sister, I know you are right, and I will carry you on my shoulders when the barricades are built & the cops tamper with our liberty.

Hearing you on FM as ever Tash, you tackle political poetry with flair and artistry. I leave fired up and even more of a pacifist than when I arrived :).

I liked your voice in this and the way your lines that were pointed out above sounded.

These are the reasons and the important questions - quite the protest song here. I think you managed this so poetically. Really superb.

This is REALLY strong, Tash, especially as it coincides with Veterans Day in the U.S.

Are you familiar with a song written by Buffy Saint Marie called "The Universal Soldier?" Probably a version on YouTube. It should be the anthem for every thinking person who is baffled by the insanity of war.

A strong protest against are worse aspects.

THE questions. Never stop asking them--with or without the excellent preamble to them in this poem.
