Calcination ~ #poetry by @Tashtoo

Calcination:  First of seven major operations in the alchemy of transformation. In society, Calcination is expressed in the lives of revolutionaries, conquerors, and warriors who try to overthrow the status quo...alchemylab.com

There is a realm that breathes between
the time we wake, the time we dream
floating upon silver moon beam
and caught between the nightmare's scream

There are three moons in her sky
where both beast and man can learn to fly
and witches dance to magick's sigh
and dwarves forge golden statues high

In honor of the gods who reign,
who play with power, toy with pain
who bring destruction then build again
where prayers are belted out in vane

But like this realm discomfort grows
like dancing dolls in puppet shows
where drunk on power, the gods don't know
no matter what, you reap what's sown

Kings and Queens alike will rise
sending dragons to the skies
for in their drunkenness, they've not realized
they will not be immortalized

The flame of dragon's breath is pure
branding all for ever more
there is truth within this ancient lore
as gods rise and dragons roar

The empty prayers at night still sing
caught between the everything
All and nothing, this too will bring
a new rebirth with Dragon's Spring

Out of the ashes truth is found
we are one with gods and ground
and like today this realm spins round
truth becomes a storied sound.

And so we slip into our dreams
where nothing is just what it seems
where dragons fire may rage and team
stuck between the nightmare's scream.

This is a joyous examination of the child-like awe in all of us and how it circumvents, what truncating language does to our expressions of infinity in our post-modern views of life...kudos...I couldn't tell if I should laugh or cry...so I did both...

how easily this flows down the page.

a new rebirth with Dragon's Spring"
ah, great lines.

The rhymes are alliterative and rich, the message dark and mythic. You soar here higher than dragons and unveil a glowing, textured world.

Beautiful, revolutionary words filled with images of dragons and gods that will hopefully learn their lessons. Great write, what talent.

Nice for Pat Hatt and your project. Good luck to you both.
I love verse, when it's done well, like this piece.

"Out of the ashes truth is found
we are one with gods and ground
and like today this realm spins round
truth becomes a storied sound."

Liked this a lot, Mosk

I love the way the rhythm tells the story, causes the poem to dance along, taking us with it all the way.

Stanza 3: in vane? in vain!

I love the time just before falling asleep -- I see dreams, laugh and am still conscious. No nightmares -- just fascination. My dragons are friendly creatures.

Wow, love this first stanza, what an intro. And you have captured that "in between" state so well. Wonderful poem, Tash!

Verse eight is my favorite with that wonderful line: we are the ones with gods and ground. As for dragons- the more the merrier and if not in poems and children's books then where? This poem illustrated could be a book.

Stuck between the nightmare's dream. Loved the ending, not that I am familiar with anything like that ... I like the voice of the entire piece, and rhymes, and visions. Enjoyed the journey through the dream of a nightmare. Very clever.

Rhyme time tonight, hmm? I liked the sense of limbo here, of the shadow realm where things are chaotic and unhinged, but still filled with this glint of beauty and ancient power.

"Dragon Spring" re-emerges, shaking off antiquity, myth, & legend, whelped from the bosom of a revolutionary poet. The rhyme scheme, usually bogs me down, but not yours; more like accelerant. Fave line
/out of the ashes truth is found/ we are one with gods and ground/, indeed, profound, truth in flesh poetics.

I seriously loved the whole thing. I can't even pull a favorite stanza out of this without feeling like it would be neglecting the others.

Awesome!

this is a very cool piece Tash. Those dragons really inspired you. Great book by the way. This piece has such a mixture of elements, really embodying the Title and it's alchemical reference. Philosophical, mystical, mythical and medieval all in one outstanding write. Great read. thanks

"There is a realm that breathes between
the time we wake, the time we dream"

This is where I fell in love with your poem and its rhyme and meter, and also with the world you are about to creat with 3 moons and gods and royalty and dragons and common folk:

"Out of the ashes truth is found
we are one with gods and ground
and like today this realm spins round
truth becomes a storied sound."

Without that verse, I would not have been willing yet to surface from the place between. Thank you.
