Coming to Terms

We wake each morning, zest for life
Until our minds begin the strife
We look for truth between the lies
We are all born, we all will die

What of the moments in between?
The good, the bad, this life, it seems
Cannot be lived with purpose high
We are all born, we all will die.

Will legacies we hope to leave
Help our children in faith believe
In all the good that helps us fly?
We are all born, we all will die.

Pray they come to see heaven here,
We are all born, we all will die.

Pray you come to see heaven here
Know that love out-powers fear
Yet always we go asking why
We are all born, we all will die.

And though we may not make our way
no matter countless prayers we pray
Hands keeps ticking, time passes by
We are all born, we all will die.

To make the most of every day
To live in light, keep dark at bay
To love's true law we must comply
We are all born, we all will die.

Grab each morning with zest for life
We are all born, we all will die.

Always tomorrow until there are none, that's why today we must have our fun, seize the day , grab hold of joy, for death don't have no mercy in this land!

Oh not just a sonnet but a kind of double sonnet (which for all I know you just invented). I might even go so far as to say they are mirrors as is the refrain a sort of mirror of itself refracted as in water and thus changed. Very challenging and that only to the form.

As to the quality of the matter, it takes up the challenge of philosophy and filters it through your imagination, with your voice offering comfort and iterating those phrases that helps make sense of daily life - Le Chaim - To Life!

this is both grounding and uplifting. it reads so fluidly while you make sweet use of a familiar form. wonderful!!

A double kyrielle... this is great, Tash! I especially like:

To make the most of every day
To live in light, keep dark at bay
To love's true law we must comply
We are all born, we all will die.

...I hope you have a very wonderful Christmas holiday.

I agree 100% with your message! Birth and death are both milestones no one avoids. We really make to make the most of ALL the time, every single day, in between!

Tash,

This is super well done.
Reading the comments, I fine it interesting how it seems vague enough that those reading the comments can find the meaning they like in it.

For instance, I hear: Live for today, Love today - for tomorrow we die, there is no "purpose high", no pie-in-sky dreams ("we may not make our way no matter our countles preayers we pray"). Yet even without these, we have love, our children and the zest for life.

See what I mean?

Terrific poem, it flows so well and had a resonance of the poets of old. Carries with it some wise words.

Hi Tash. I loved the flow, the use of form and the sentiment. I realy appreciate that you challenge us to live each moment as fully as we can, because we never know which will be our last - only that we will have a final momoent.

all this tiny, big moments which creat our lifes, and then there are those specila ones where one could burst from inside out due to love for life and happiness. A great poem for this time of year. An love the form.

Very well written! I loved the refrain at the end of each line. Truly brought power while balancing the entire poem.

I loved every thing about this...the form was perfect, the refrain, and the content was very deep and meaningful, spiritual in such a way to touch everyone, no matter their belief. The truth is stated over and over and can not be disputed. I enjoyed it very much...thanks.
