Reckoning

Born of the fires of the blackest pits of hell
angels for a new world rise
wings of the blackest feathers
iron wrought from the ovens of Hades
modern masochistic cherubs
ready to make our dreams come true.

Eyes bleeding the blackest onyx
tar teardrops born of joy
as poison tipped arrows pierce our hearts
their fierce teeth chomp
hungry for lost innocence

Scripture points the finger
as our savior condemns
judged as one
broken promises litter the pathway
as the pearly gates corrupt

They travel now among us
Our hearts content to tend to our needs
convinced there is no saving
souls less worthy than our own
We do not make the world

Their laughter often silent
a back track to lullabies
alas, like our hearts
we closed our ears to truth
so very long ago.

Save me now
the hurt has become far too much for me to bear
This heart so heavy
This mind confused

I played by the rules
prayed by the fools
believed every promise

Looked above for God
Looked below for devils

Oblivious to the war that wages

within.

modern masochistic cherubs
ready to make our dreams come true...oy, lots of grit in your words today...i agree with your summation, it is only in our coming together that we will see our way through this world...and in the bleakest of moments, this is when that can happen

Woo, outstanding metaphor... lots of dirty realness..

And yes that is the only way...
We'd rather fall one by one by one
than stand tall, together.

Likes the use of Hades and bit of myth too
And great song as well on cue
Hopefully all will come as one
But doesn't seem that way under any sun
Dark and powerful - the change starts with each of us, and you are contributing the best you can. Do not lose hope - we need you.

On behalf of humanity,
love, Mosk

This is wonderful! The end so powerful! "I played by the rules
prayed by the fools". Love it!

Chilling. Ugh. AGree with Claudia. k.
I guess I have to echo what others have said--we do have to come together or we just won't survive as a species--

Such a hellish vision! And at times it feels exactly like this. Getting together means we believe there is still a way to oust the evil and devils from world, community, ourselves. Never give in to the dark visions--but God helps those who help themselves through the golden rule . . .

I think you used every dark word or phrase there is, you naled the point home, and the conflicting feelings, the lost inbetweeness, and the grasping for faith in a time of no good answers. Very strong write, share.

We are human, we seem to want to build only to destroy. Maybe it's in our DNA to want to kill, and some of us can't stop the urge. I have a feeling though, Hollywood and all the violence seen there and on TV and in hand held games is creating a new breed of kids who don't see anything wrong with a killing here, a killing there, as long as the killer hero is the good guy.
Yes, we are creating our own hell, right here, right now.
*Sighs...powerful in its truth Tash

This was difficult to read and digest, Tash. I think that mankind has separated so far apart and I truly wish that weren't true. I watch the news and it makes me want to cry. Sometimes I do cry.

Tar teardrops.... Yes, dark times. And so hard to find the light just now, though I keep trying. Together, all of us, we can get there. xo

I love your anger, I love your hope. Never never give up, Tash. Keep inspiring us with your visceral, powerful, and beautiful words. This is a powerful piece!

I know the feeling of a heavy heart, and yes, "we closed our ears to the truth so very long ago". I am a creature of the old ways...but this world isn't to my liking at all, some times..."we do not make the world" and you show this in a very powerful way, Natasha. This is one of my favorite poems of yours.

It is sad how many people I hear explaining this event as having anything to do with gods or devils. When will we realize that hell and heaven are empty -- we are our only enemy and our only hope.
if only everyone could believe "One world...One struggle...One Love"

wishing you even a little peace and joy this holiday season, Natasha!

faith is an odd thing... hard to put into word... does it come from the heart... maybe from the mind... or just past experiences... it's a hard thing

Speak it, Tash~!

this is a powerful message/poem. And I am with you...we can continue to try to make it on our own, or we can rethink this whole idea.

I no longer want to do it alone. There are good souls out there we need to touch and embrace.

As for faith? or religion? It continues to scare us into servitude....at least the religions down here in the South USA. LOL!

There has to be a better way. Take this WINTER to recharge your batteries in the silence and peace of the season....say in January when all the tinsel is gone. Commune with the trees and the squirrels.

This season is a reason for improved sanity..once we get past the 'holidays'.

You write the learning curve, here. I, through personal experience, learned that "doing everything right and following all the rules" does not guarantee the outcome we desire. The path of life requires more of us, as you so eloquently tell.

Do Madison Avenue & Hollywood just give us what we already demand to make a buck, as we are bombarded with Gamer/Movie/TV violence, becoming more desensitized with each black moment? Probably. We older ones can tell the difference between entertainment, fantasy, and mantra or guideline as some of our youth interpret the madness. Love the notion that demons masquerade as cherubs, and that some or most are created within each of us. Heavy, penetrating poetry, my dear!

Oh, smack! Dark powerful. Your closing lines say it all:
I played by the rules prayed by the fools believed every promise
Looked above for God Looked below for devils
Oblivious to the war that wages
within.

One is what we are...too easy to slip into the duality of good and evil... I'm right they are wrong... together yes... that is OUR saving grace, when we remember that we are ONE.

Brilliantly constructed Natasha. This really resonates with my mood at this time of tragedy and over-indulgence. Hope you enjoy a peaceful holiday and a happy New Year. Hugs James.
