Blood Bath ~ #poetry by @Tashtoo

There was no intent behind the bullet that shattered the glass of this mirrored illusion.
A simple game of chance, turned to roulette as the chamber emptied.
A young boy, wanting to be a man, took aim without direction
and while the shards as they flew, left us cut and bleeding,
it is the truth of ourselves we now must face.

This chem trail sky served a purpose while the illusion remained intact.
Drunk on mission operatives we had no clue we were a part of, we played our role.
Like cattle to the slaughter, we marched, on ward, forward...or so we thought
But now, we step on the same shard of the mirror, over and over again
and the pool of our wasted being only grows deeper

So many conversations in the early hours
when dawn was nothing more than an indigo glow wrapped round our horizon
dreams and aspirations long ago implanted
and we were foolish enough to think them our own.

The pool grows deeper now, every breath a struggle
I can only hold your head above it for so long, if I am to hold mine too.
I'm sorry to pull you from our dream like this, so sorry
but I'm so very tired.

A crimson glow washes over perceived reality as you drag me under
The weight I never noticed, will become my undoing
unless I find the courage to let go.
I know now, with every slice of my skin, you were always one of them.

There is a real, almost tangible feeling of pain in this powerful poem. The imagery and tightness of the construction give this a deeply moving authenticity Natasha.

This one does pack a poetic punch, and it illuminates the need for /it's the truth of ourselves we now must face/. Posted an image from a Texan on FB today; the head of a bullet with a dew drop on it; reflected in the drop was the American flag; damn upsetting. I am as guilty as the rest, action junkie, gun lover, macho imagination. Time for re-evaluation, for growth, for introspection. Thanks.

I hope this comment sticks this time. Gruesome little tale here Tash, brilliantly twisty and turny, great in a comment but so easily translated into a short! Well done!

Painful images, vivid in their sense of lost.

Lost roulette...
A soul vanishes

Powerful poem. This line really hit me today: "I can only hold your head above it for so long, if I am to hold mine too." Peace, Linda

I did not like this -

but in a good way :-) The intensity of expression coupled with the dark imagery create a deeply disturbing poem, which I think was your intention.

"The weight I never noticed, will become my undoing

So much truth in that. So much truth in this whole poem. I look forward to your work every week, Tash.

You demand self assessment and acceptance of consequences, natural. This is equally personal and societal. Ills are ills...

Holding on to many a weight
Can sure be a tough fate
But letting them go
Can make much show
Great write as the emotions flow
Strength through weakness can show

Such ferocious intensity.... The mirror you hold up reflects bits and pieces of us all, I think. You cut right to the heart of the matter, always. And that close was gut wrenching.

Incredible, I ate these words up a mile a second. Precise, fierce and poignant

The truth will always be there... it's us that must find it and once we do, it may not be what we expected to find.

That young boy, wanting to be a man, taking aim w/out direction...that
's what hooked me. Pain and power in this piece. Great write! ~jackie~

I loved the way it started but the ending, with the whole sense of a new "knowing" or understanding is what I truly enjoyed. Another wonderful poem :)

A poem much impact, very much alive and very strong and painful. I think we need to feel evil
to understand how much the good it is important.
I like it great job.
