Waiting to be Written ~ #OpenLinkNight @dVersePoets

Have you ever fallen into a song?
Lost your way and used the melody to bring you back?

Have you ever joined Dougie MacLean on the road to "Caledonia"
sat fireside while the strings resonate with thoughts of yesterday
hope for tomorrow and an acceptance of the end.
It makes me cry...every time.

Have you ever spent the day getting stoned with Dylan?
Everybody should...at least once
Feel the hope for better and the desire to join together
We don't feel enough any more.

Have you ever rode the storm with the Lizard King
Black light romance, lost in the poetry
waking up and wondering how you got there
realizing you could care less...all about the trip, rather than the destination?

Have you ever been forced to sing grave side
through tears and memories
seeing hearts remember as they join in
lifting the legacy of a loved one to the heavens, a flight of grace

Have you ever sold your soul to the devil
Caught up in the pit, screaming guitars
bass pumping heavy in your chest while your body contorts
distorted by hands not your own carrying you over to the dark side, South of Heaven

Have you ever skinny~dipped beyond the edge of midnight
Bodies spirited, co-mingling, sticky sweet like glycerin
while the car radio sends subliminal messages of debauchery
Turns me into a Crazy Bitch...intoxicated, no inhibition

Have you ever been alone, hugging a pillow that reeks of memory
while a Northern Wind blows through the room
and you fight to forget all the Little Hells you've been put through
praying desperately for reason.

I'm just a song about a girl
waiting to be written
while stealing inspiration
for my soundtrack.

And the bands play on...

It's OpenLinkNight over at dVerse today...and I'm still looking for my song ;) See you at the pub...linking up at 3pmEST with Grace (@asweetlust) behind the bar.

..wow beautiful! ♥♥♥ (;
And the band does play on. That's what music is all about, taking you places in your mind that you've never been before or felt.

Good job.

There is so much in this piece...what a wonderful song from a wonderful girl. My favorite verse is this one:

Have you ever been forced to sing grave side
through tears and memories
seeing hearts remember as they join in
lifting the legacy of a loved one to the heavens, a flight of grace

Beautiful!!!

I loved this - music is such a part of our lives, memories, feelings - perfectly written in this wonderful poem. K

Damn Tash I Wish it effected me that intensely... now I'm jealous. Great finish on this.

why...yes I have, to most of those questions...maybe from a gender-different perspective, but with similar affects.

It's so easy to get lost in the music, lost in the moment. I have, many times, although many of the songs were different.

I hope someone writes your song soon Tash.

Yes, I have! Music is the earliest and most enduring inspiration in my life. And I think we're always in the process of writing ourselves.

I get lost in songs more than anything else. They bring such strong emotions out in me. Sometimes they literally take my breath away or they make me sigh or cry. I love when a song moves me. Of course, it's poetry to music. Maybe that's why it's such a winning combination. Lots of inspiration for us here, Natasha :)

The song is excellent and your travels in the music is great. It we do not have music and poetry around us then life seems sl bland. http://gatelesspassage.com/2013/02/02/reflections/
Love it! You caught me up and carried me away ... just as the best songs do.

another wonderfully crafted poem. i just love how the story is told here.

Working on my soundtrack I would go to some of the exact same places. I'm glad it is still a work in progress . . .

Wow, wow, wow Natasha! "Pillow that reeks of memory" this was my favorite line. This is so true, all of it when I think about my life. Music influences me everyday, and we are all a story or song to be written- one day, one stanza, and one revolving chorus at a time.

This one blew my trousers down, word princess; one of your best, one of my faves def; strong stanzas, a real rock and roll sonata, and so much more. Like Brian, I adore the last stanza & last line; gives me goose bumps, girl.

music, a gift, as our words so impacts others, as you did today

Lost in the music...so easy for that to happen.. although the soundtrack for my life may have been different. Loved the last stanza and the last line.

I've spent many a day with Dylan.... And Joni Mitchell as well... I love the way you did this, a little trip down memory lane, all leading up to that perfect ending!

Lost in the notes of your song and thinking about all the ways rhythm carry us though our darkest moments and capsulates our brightest memories. Thank you for writing this one. Cheers!

This is very beautiful..pieces which everyone can identify with, and many more than one. I love how you summed the poem up by making it a song about a girl..

every stanza is a delight and the whole piece, engrossing. But that last one-- sublime. You put the capstone on the structure.

I like this. Kind of makes me feel like all of the ups and downs are the reason for living---as opposed to constantly trying to obtain some ideal.

The songs, the moments, they are like scent. Powerful in their ability to bring us in and out of moments on the spin of a track. And we can dance there until we are written....lovely ~ Rose

What strikes me is that there are all these things that she (I think) has done and yet she is still a song waiting to be written. What is she waiting for? What hasn't been written yet? It's like there is a whole mystery at the end of the poem and I am on the edge of my seat. I really like it.

nothing wrong with stealing a little inspiration. I'm sure we all have a montage of sounds stockpiled for our soundtracks.

i keep having this dream where i meet Tashtoo at the back of the blue bus :D

Matterafact, I have been diving into Spotify all day all this week, and have the rapture of the deep from so much immersion in music of all kinds. So this spoke to me especially strongly. Now if you just could add drums and guitars!

What a great journey through the world of music and teenage rebellion! This felt rich, multi-layered and full of potential. Much like the girl!

Flim-FLAMMIN Tash! That was Perfect!

I think this phenomenon is one of the reasons people feel so strongly for their favorite music (as witnessed by the interminable arguments about who's music is better, who's the greatest guitarist, etc.)--music speaks not only to us, but often for us. Great work, Tash!
