Off With Her Head ~ #Poetry @dVersePoets

I get incredibly tired of fighting
I don't do it well
Truth be told
I don't do it at all.

Call me walk-away
Call me quitter
Call me weak
Call me bitter

Call me every undeserved name in the book
I walk away for you.

I have helped you hide the truth of you
helped you kill and bury so much shame
So deep, you now have the nerve to use my own against me

Every secret confession whispered in moments of quivering weakness
The scent of indiscretion never phasing
The sweat of guilt, judgement,
every single fear I admitted
now used to make me feel less than worthy
just a dirty girl pulled out of the shadows
to have every complex debated
every bleeding hatred
displayed under the lights of burning fluorescent

You were dead to me so very long ago
But the fear of failure kept your heart beating
how was I supposed to know
in my effort to sustain you
it was me who would be left dying.

Public execution
Off with my head.

With the launch of "Pulse" coming up tomorrow...I've not been a very good comrade in arms for the poetic army. Looking forward to getting back to my screwed up sense of normalcy, and I can think of no better way than hitting dVersePoets for OpenLinkNight...doors open at 3pmEST and you're more than welcome to join us.

Geez violent today at your bay
And every name in the book you say?
Damn, the cat would be here forever
And couldn't get all clever
And make what you asked at his zoo
Did reply to you!

Talk about the ultimate betrayal.
This cut deep - I have been you in this poem, esp this:

"I have helped you hide the truth of you
helped you kill and bury so much shame
So deep, you now have the nerve to use my own against me"

Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I do keep a list and pull it out only when I need to.

This was blood-red, viscerally good. Excellent.

I think this poem is about my former marriage -- that's how strongly I relate to it.

"Fear of failure kept your heart beating" Fear is a big motivator. In this context, it is clear actions are no longer driven by unconditional love. Thank you for sharing.

I like the walk away sequence and the final line that brings back the title. http://looseleafnotes.com

...perhaps loving yourself less than you give to the world makes it all difficult... or maybe could be better to make the habit in reverse this time... smiles... goodluck on the launching... blockbuster for sure it will be... smiles...

My fave line was /just a dirty girl pulled out of the shadows/ and responded emotionally to your viscera and re-establishment of balance & boundaries. Your POV is of a person who avoids conflict. Gosh, I thought most poets were conflict junkies & reporters of same.

Ugh... i relate to this... I'm not one to walk away from conflict tho I know it's the right thing to do..ugh why are you taking me back to that place, Tash? that's what a true poet does, so I can't be mad at ya. :)

Betrayal stings and hard believe, an intense and good write.

I am identifying with this far more than I wish to at the moment. You've captured something beautiful and sad here.

This hurts to read, which means its good. A breakup is never easy, but betrayal like that.

And mixing that with Lewis Carol . Very good

I absolutely love this Tash! So very conversational and I love it. I could feel the poem speak to me as I could see the words come to life and speak their story. Awesome stuff!

You just have written about my last 10 yrs. haha I see myself in your words.

I agree: fighting is ghastly, much better to walk away, even if we feel weak and belittled.

I liked the rumbling undercurrent, the bass-line have you, of this piece. Sets the tone you mean biz, even if you say your not much of a fighter. Anyway, that's my comment.

Oh wow. Natasha this is incredible but so heart wrenching for me - I know some of what you've shared in past relationships in my own memories. You capture the essence of hopelessness and frustration so well in this.

Wow. I really like this. Yeah, to your opening; I don't fight either.

"Call me walk-away" Love this line. And this is awesome:

"just a dirty girl pulled out of the shadows
to have every complex debated
every bleeding hatred
displayed under the lights of burning fluorescent"

Also love the ending.

Sometimes, it just takes too much out of you.

Well played, Tash!
Life is too short for this kind of conflict. When you are out of it you will wonder why you put up with it for so long. Put your reeboks on honey and start walking!

When we betray ourselves, we do so to others and when we betray others we do the same to ourselves. A great write, Tash! Congrads on Pulse!

Something very poignant and very easy to relate to. Beautifully expressed, thank you.
I avoid conflict whenever it's possible - mostly because even when I'm right, I lose the argument, because I am more emotionally invested than the other person or so it seems. This one was too easy to identify with and yes, well-written as always.

outstanding write Tash. The pure emotion and vulnerability in here is so moving. Strong, strong piece.

Deep, raw, intense, emotionally challenging - way to make a comeback Tash :-) Hope the new book does well for you and Winter Goose.

Felt this, very much. Beautiful writing as always.
For some reason this poem delights me (I know eh). I really like this poem not just because it flows and is really well written but the content, its weird, I don`t mind conflict at all so I don`t know how I relate to it so much.

You hit me upside the head on this one for some reason. I like getting hit upside the head poetically from time to time.
