Soldiers of Light

There are those moments
when we stumble upon a soul
that convinces us there is better.
One that turns our eyes to the inside,
to the walls we ourselves have built
in a defense against those souls
who are not...better.

They become a light in our darkness
a personal beacon that allows us to follow
to learn, for but a brief moment
within this timeless existence
so perhaps upon rebirth
we can carry those lessons with us.

They are few and far between
these givers of light, of hope.
They are champions for acceptance,
accept all without argument
listen, converse
not ready to defend their own truth
if it means belittling yours

Unlike the majority
they refuse the mass systematization
of beliefs, philosophies
Instead, choosing to explore potential
What do we learn by cowering in fear
judging without fact
condemning without reason.
Why do the ghosts of our ancestors make us run
as though their burdens are our own to bear.

These souls
few as they may be
are proof of better.
Angels who walk among us
teaching, guiding
but never forcing.

Allowing the mistakes
forgiving us our sins
and housing in their hearts
a genuine desire
that we become all we were meant to be.

Understanding of the simple fact
the more who shine their light
the brighter the world will be.

Claudia is prepping the pub as we speak for OpenLinkNight.  Pulse is now available on kindle ...and I'm going to ask you for your support ....this month at neueregelradio we are donating our time and efforts to the support of Autism Awareness...your help in the promotion and sharing of 12HoursForAutism would be appreciated, by so many, more than you know.

I have known a few people like this in my lifetime. People that have something to teach me....by example..subtly; and they may not even know they are doing it. It is just who they are.

Lucky to have known a couple of those angels...they touch one and made one want to be a better person, and the world a kinder place..enjoyed your poetry.
Yes indeed, there are "givers of light." And you Natasha are most certainly one of them. Your words speak to me like light shining in my pathway. Thank you for your words.

The people I've known who are/were like this did a walk through my head as I read this. What a gift your poem gave me.

There is light and dark in this world, Tash. Unfortunately, the dark seems to weigh out. Well said, and I will check out your link for autism, thanks for that.

We must strive to understand all people. Empathy is the bridge to the greatest future for us, yet so many, including myelf have our .failings.
Love this poem, dang Tash your last two poem are really hitting me in the right place.

Personally I think nothing but angels have been sent to us. Each and everyone of us are angels, for we are experiencing life's infinite soup of possibilities. To know and experience love one must know and experience fear, to know hot one must know cold. Let us not condemn those that bring us pain but offer thanks for the experience which help us build who we want to be in life.

For those that are a guiding light, hold them tight. For those that cause pain let them be reminders of who you Don't Want To Be.

We are all one, the sum of everything and yet we are also pieces of the sum. Your body can be broken down into parts, yet we do not condemn what the hand does or the eyes see. I just wish as everybody else has commented, there were more soldiers of light.

OK now I'm speaking too much and getting way too deep. Thanks for the spiritual reminder.

Yes, these are the people that give us hope for all of humanity. And something to aspire to...

These types of people are so special, and this made me smile to think of the ones I've encountered.

And the light goes on, as it should. Those souls that you have so clearly and powerfully identified here can have a transformative and disproportionate effect on the world. You have given us all something to aspire towards with humility - Thankyou so much Tash...

This is so very true Natasha. There are few who are capable of bending sunbeams in our direction. You thankfully, are undoubtedly one of them. Hope you're well. Hugs, James.

I love your poem. It makes me want to try hardeer to BE one of those you describe, and it also makes me want to work harder to SEEK OUT such people in my own life.
Beautiful.
Thank you for this gentle, well-worded reminder.
