Oblivion

Immediately the mistake was recognized for what it was...
A decision made
based on a decade's old promise
that held no validity
in the direction she was moving.

Now new roots are needed
but the ground is frozen
resisting
As cold as the eyes that stare back at her
Mocking the openness of her smile.

But she still smiles.
The only option remaining.

Unfolding opportunity
on greasy diner napkins
Dinner with new friends
With the same bad habits

How quickly we adjust
Seek out the familiar
Seek out oblivion

The dark is the same no matter where she visits

I think a poem wrote itself as I was considering a comment about "Oblivion." Ha. Such an early morning inspiration!

Your observations in this poem are dead on, I think. We'll never escape some environments because they're part of our psyche, and we'll rebuild them wherever we go.

Nice write, Natasha.

To quote you: Seek out the familiar
Seek out oblivion

end quote.

holy wow! You brought this poem to the universe is attention. I love this poem so much!

It seems as if darkness is everywhere and we can never seen to get away from it. Sometimes darkness needs a friend to share its company. Bravo! Natasha. :)
