A Poet's Purpose

This is not a romance novel
It is not a fairy tale
Prince Charming will not save you
The enemy is not an apple

Nor is it a snake pushing wares
From forbidden places
Or an evil queen suffering
The weight of her own ego

This is life
As messy, as painful,
As magical, as wondrous
As the miracle

Of our mistaken existence
In a world that was never meant to be
The only hope to put it into words
Is the hope of poetry
