On the Road to North Bay

The highway is clear
Still, round every bend
There's that guy
The one who has to slow you down
The station at Temagami
Is lifeless
As though the trains have stopped running
Their tracks, covered in snow
Ice gives up and drips slowly
From a melting cliff face
Rivulets of life
Creeping across the asphalt
Look closely
And you can hear the promise
Of open water
Over the sound of the big rigs
And the radio
The sun is a story that demands our attention
Pushing back at winter
Cottage country and canoes
Getting tired of waiting
