Everything to Gain ~ Book Review

REVIEWED BY BEN DITMERS

Available from Parlour press

There’s a scene in Kill Bill where Hatori Hanzo crafts his finest sword after an extended leave of absence and a promise to god. Everything to Gain by Natasha Head is that sword. At first glance it may even appear unassuming because it fits in your hand so easily. There is a child reaching on the front and we can’t see for what. Head’s words begin to unravel the mystery. And it is as beautiful as it is painful. We are reaching inside us for truth. We are reaching for things to hold onto. We are reaching to stop our hands from letting go of what we carry. Most of all, we are reaching to keep feeling in the darkness. Few books are as perfect as this, and even fewer have I picked up when I needed them most. This is a collection you need to experience.

Favorite lines:

“I think I could believe in anything”

“I will not be your excuse, nor will I be your weapon any longer”
