Strange Days Are Upon Us

Strange Days are Upon Us

When once I could call these walls home
And feel safe wrapped within their embrace
But the temple knows not where her subjects travel
To overcome this frightening pace.

Decay and rot are  what remains
And rogue spirits who want to linger
But no support could hold her up
That would allow our souls to linger

A change of hands too quick to see
And suddenly homeless we have become
We are the poets with eyes to see
A legacy come undone.

To greener pastures the flock does flock
Forgetting their own lush beds
Where safe and sound we all could hide
From these voices in our heads.

But alone are we, we see that now
The only safe harbour a temporary one
We are the poets with eyes to see
A legacy come undone.

Strange days are upon us
This we can no longer deny
The time has come to take the stage
And let our silence die.

Strange days are upon us indeed! There are big changes coming at Onestop Poetry, and Adam and Chris have announced this will be their last "One Shoot Sunday".  In honor of that, I may be late to post, but I certainly didn't want to miss it.  Special thanks as well to Neil Alexander, who is spotlighted this week.  His images are amazing! Have a visit with us to learn more!

You are the first to tell me. This isn't good. The poem is - the news, awful. :(

Awesome way to tie the photo and news together, Natasha. Great expression of feelings and hopes. And you make the darn thing rhyme, too? Yeah, awesome.

Gosh Tash, first off. Please add me to your blog roll; I'm putting you on mine. Going be surfing that more. As for your poetic offering, you said some things that floored me; kind of like the comment you left on my poem. The ending is a much needed battle cry, and the lines "Where safe and sound we all could hide / From these voices in our heads." You struck a very human chord there, beyond art. Makes me think of both the sense of achievement felt when overcoming a debilitating fear, in addition to the reality of insecurity, and in the worst case dementia. The poem's title made me recall John Lennon's "Nobody Told Me." Ironic given HGS's comment, one of my fav songs too. Anyway, sincere thanks Tasha. Quite a moving poem I won't forget.

Wow, I think many of us are sad about these changes. " the only safe harbour a temporary one." I love your lines here, Tasha.

I'm sure many other ventures are waiting in the wings
Only time will see what that brings
You state the leaving and loss great
Even though not an appealing fate
Push on and keep posting at your tour
And those voices will hoepfully not be silent anymore

"..we are the poets with eyes to see/a legacy come undone..." very well said, Natasha, I'm sad, yet I feel better now, knowing we all share a bond that grows stronger through adversity and change.

Well said, Natasha.
We are the poets with eyes to see
A legacy come undone.

Strange days are upon us
This we can no longer deny
The time has come to take the stage
And let our silence die.

Your capture the spirit of the picture and perhaps the decline to come in Man's future!

this is wonderful - what a tribute, one that I second whole-heartedly. One of your best yet, Natasha. Beyond brilliant, I think because it means so much to all of us.

Wonderful tribute... I fear your words carry the same sense of loss for many of us. Powerful last lines! Brilliantly shared.

As Dustus mentioned above, the title was evocative of John Lennon, true, but also of The Doors' "Strange Days" and its opening line, "Strange days have found us." Of course, you didn't draw from either song, but as always, walked your own path.

Once again you express hopes for the artists among us to "save" us. I like that.

Or, to put all of the above in a more concise way:

"Good 'un."
