Here's to the Jaded Ones ~ OpenLinkNight
jAdEd ~ Natasha Head~ Feb 2012 |
So many fancy trinkets must drive poor cupid mad.
Remember back in the day
when all it took was a look to know?
That warm pulse...racing through your veins
Causing your heart to speed up, your breath
caught in your throat.
Every hour apart enough to topple the mad hatter
every second like a nightmare
that little hand stuck...tick...tick....ticking
What happened...between lost in lust
and the everyday.
You can't buy it back, no matter your frustration
I was never one to be bought,
simple as that would be.
I need you...not a card, not a rose, not a dinner
though a glass or two of wine never hurt, and
music...my music
Fade to black as Patience is up on deck
and the garden of Eden will always wait
no matter how hungry the white snake grows
Some call me jaded
Some think me sour
but you never did...remember when you got me?
Too easy to please
you knew there had to be a catch...
and now you claim to have run out of things to say.
Here's to the jaded ones
and the conversations that will never be had.
Claudia will have her hands full this evening! OpenLinkNight AND Valentine's Day (not my favorite day, just saying!) But I have attempted a poem in honor of it none the less. We're also rocking The River's second poetry slam today...so I'm a busy lady...(and since I'm posting this the evening before to be sure I'm ready...I'm providing you all a glimpse into the future as my treat to you for this special day) And, hint, hint, I'm rocking an 80's vibe at the slam! Feel free to swing by and cast a vote for your favorite...or stick around the pub in celebration of Poet Amore! It's Valentine's Day at dVersePoets!

look at you up early...putting me to shame...smiles...i am in the middle of mine...a hard core gansta rap valentine poem...lol
For it takes more than one whole day
At any bay
To make it work
And yeah don't need trinkets sometimes just a playful smirk.
I love it. This is so relatable and very deep. More please.
the conversations that will never be had...tugs at my heart strings.
After 26 years together, I got a card this morning that said "Still not sick of you" on the front - followed quickly by a much more traditional card. The first would have been enough. :) Peace, Linda
Sharp, insightful poem, Tash.

Nicely stated, Uh uh!
Your wonderful poem points out the irony of it all. So easy to please... and still not enough... I know that sentiment well. But you're right... trinkets cannot take the place of time, attention, true love and the truth that resounds through the heart.

Fade to black as Patience is up on deck
and the garden of Eden will always wait
no matter how hungry the white snake grows
chocolates melting
roses wilting
Love dead.....no, the truth need not be dressed up for show
thanks for keepin it real
Peace
Loveliness.
I suppose we all have our moment of being jaded...
Thanks for the honesty!
Meh, VDay is overrated...but I love how this day brings out either the jovial or the jaded...
And the jaded always seems so much more intriguing and cathartic to me....
either way, it always makes for a great poem :)
the passion in your words belies the "jaded" tag. {smile} Love this!
♥
p.s. I loved your white snake line!
"when all it took was a look to know" ... What a great point.
"Every hour apart enough to topple the mad hatter" ... loved this line
The closing lines are just amazing, and the whole poem has a very strong "All Things Must Pass" sentiment coursing through it, executed with originality and uniqueness.
Just a wonderful poem. Aces.
