Here's to the Jaded Ones ~ OpenLinkNight

jAdEd ~ Natasha Head~ Feb 2012

So many fancy trinkets must drive poor cupid mad.
Remember back in the day
when all it took was a look to know?

That warm pulse...racing through your veins
Causing your heart to speed up, your breath
caught in your throat.

Every hour apart enough to topple the mad hatter
every second like a nightmare
that little hand stuck...tick...tick....ticking

What happened...between lost in lust
and the everyday.

You can't buy it back, no matter your frustration
I was never one to be bought,
simple as that would be.

I need you...not a card, not a rose, not a dinner
though a glass or two of wine never hurt, and
music...my music

Fade to black as Patience is up on deck
and the garden of Eden will always wait
no matter how hungry the white snake grows

Some call me jaded
Some think me sour
but you never did...remember when you got me?

Too easy to please
you knew there had to be a catch...
and now you claim to have run out of things to say.

Here's to the jaded ones
and the conversations that will never be had.

Claudia will have her hands full this evening! OpenLinkNight AND Valentine's Day (not my favorite day, just saying!) But I have attempted a poem in honor of it none the less.  We're also rocking The River's second poetry slam today...so I'm a busy lady...(and since I'm posting this the evening before to be sure I'm ready...I'm providing you all a glimpse into the future as my treat to you for this special day) And, hint, hint, I'm rocking an 80's vibe at the slam! Feel free to swing by and cast a vote for your favorite...or stick around the pub in celebration of Poet Amore! It's Valentine's Day at dVersePoets!

i need you not a card...or anything else for that matter...yep that is it for sure...money dont buy love and love takes work...the snake may die of hunger if the garden stays closed...that was a metaphor right...blush....haha...

They can take the day and shove it I say.
For it takes more than one whole day
At any bay
To make it work
And yeah don't need trinkets sometimes just a playful smirk.

This is a bad-assed bleeding-heart-day poem! My favorite, "What happened...between lost in lust and the everyday," how oft I've asked... »^.,.^«

Yeah, Valentine's day is not my favorite day either, but your attempt at honoring the day worked out well, very nice job Tash. The section on the music was quite the treat, Fade To Black and Sanitarium are my 2 favorite Metallica songs, Patience is alright but for GNR I'll go with Dead Horse, don't know the Garden of Eden song reference, but I was, back in the day, a big Coverdale and White Snake fan- oh that video….yep, that certainly was Valentine's day to a young metalhead back in the day. Nice write, thanks and happy OLN
this is the TRUTH. I actually hate the way valentines day has become a commercial lever. If you have to be TOLD to go and BUY something for someone on one particular day of the year- then...well....we're pretty much doomed I guess. As a guy- I feel like valentines day just makes us look stupid, queuing up in shops- looking disinterested- buying the cheapest shit we can get our hands on (hey- i'm generalising massively I know). What ever happened to REAL ROMANCE....love this Tash- as always- you nailed it (clearly- check my reaction! ha ha)

I love it. This is so relatable and very deep. More please.

We are as one on our valentine's sentiments, Ms Tash--the day invented to boost the sales of jewelry stores and card makers, and yet another cultural example of style over substance. Just sayin. I like the way you say it too, in the passage brian quoted. Time jades us all a bit, but then, jade is one of my favorite stones.

ah love, it is such a complicated thing. to me real love, true love, is the one that makes it through the dredges of everyday, not the pretend red-hearted valentine's kind of day.

the conversations that will never be had...tugs at my heart strings.

smiles...i'm not a big fan on valentines day myself...i hate everything forced...so yes..enjoyed your poem a lot tash

Nice tribute to the jaded ones. Some days I'm among them, but most days not.

After 26 years together, I got a card this morning that said "Still not sick of you" on the front - followed quickly by a much more traditional card. The first would have been enough. :) Peace, Linda
Daaaaaaamn..... this is so freaking DEEP. Awesome write Tash....

Well, I certainly understand the sentiment here. I'm not jaded yet, but I abhor the commericalization of sincere relationships and th money grubbing attempts to capitalize on what is GOOOD.

Sharp, insightful poem, Tash.

I am not a fan of all the |BIG MONEY events that have over taken every holiday and clained it for $$$ Love used to mean so much more than what it does today, same as Christmas and Easter too.
Nicely stated, Uh uh!

I am jaded but at the same time loved up. I agree with you completely, tonight there will be no tv, only the radio and us dancing like it's the 50s.
I am not a "jaded one." But here's too those that are... it's all laughable... oops! does that make me jaded?!

Your wonderful poem points out the irony of it all. So easy to please... and still not enough... I know that sentiment well. But you're right... trinkets cannot take the place of time, attention, true love and the truth that resounds through the heart.
This piece tugs at my heart strings--the inability of love to withstand the onslaught of life--hard piece of reality---

Very powerful, very pensive, seeking the meaning of love while seeming to hold it at arm's length. Your hurt sings in your songs, but the hurt has made you wise to know who ypu and what you want. That does not heal the wound, perhaps, but if these words prove anything it proves how rich your beauty is, in and of itself. For it brings to light such wonderful lines as these, exotic, surreal, calling to depths in us that drive us to serk each other, often blindly:

Fade to black as Patience is up on deck
and the garden of Eden will always wait
no matter how hungry the white snake grows

I agree... actions speak so much louder that cards, trinkets and all that other Valentine stuff. Hope you've had a great day!

This is pulsating with hurt, shall I say...
Loveliness.
I suppose we all have our moment of being jaded...
Thanks for the honesty!

As usual, awesome read!
Meh, VDay is overrated...but I love how this day brings out either the jovial or the jaded...
And the jaded always seems so much more intriguing and cathartic to me....
either way, it always makes for a great poem :)

we should all be jaded about the "commercial" Valentine's Day ~ i'm a believer that, ideally, love is celebrated EVERY day {with a conscious effort on our parts} ~ and "the look".... oh, baby!

the passion in your words belies the "jaded" tag. {smile} Love this!

Fer sure, Tash, this aint no Hallmark moment. But it is honest, and your imagry and metaphors throughout underscore that jaded Valentine. Interesting write!

Valentines day is a day for the jaded it's wasted on the young in love it's a time to reignite passions !!! Great poem but love and lust is always under the surface if the embers are still burning ...: ) happy valentine and ((HUG ))) x

That's a refreshing piece of jadedness Tash.. more real than Hallmark too :)
Nicely done, Natasha! I agree with your valentine/NOT sentiments. Here is my anti-valentine: http://charleslmashburn.wordpress.com/2012/02/14/i-cant-do-this-anymore/

Smart and readable. You're right about this...gifts, cards, tokens, have come to take the place of humanity. Too easy to use these and forget about why. Excellent.

Ah yes, the price of love is no longer the thought that counts, but the how much that thought is going to cost you. I really like this.

Wow how did we all get so jaded? I'm glad I'm not alone. Maybe its an age thing :) I spent Valentine's with kindergartners. They throw I love you's around like paper airplanes, even at this "other kid's" mom.
p.s. I loved your white snake line!

"Patience" was always one of my favorites too.

"when all it took was a look to know" ... What a great point.

"Every hour apart enough to topple the mad hatter" ... loved this line
This be good.

The closing lines are just amazing, and the whole poem has a very strong "All Things Must Pass" sentiment coursing through it, executed with originality and uniqueness.

Just a wonderful poem. Aces.

Personally, feeling that I am loved is so much more important than those three words, than trinkets and flowers that begin their death before ever becoming my possession. Wonderful work, as always.

I sooooo get this. I thought I wrote a somewhat sarcastic Valentine but I guess it came off a bit too smooshy - sigh ... I'm a little more of the same view as you ... great words.

Nothing left to say? With someone whose mind seems to range so widely and express so well? What could that be about? Usually power games. Has the dialogue become too one-sided? What of too easy to please? Would a drama queen have added spice? Would that have been nasty to be nice?
Nicely done. I don't care much for any commercialism and it seems all the holidays/holy days have become commercialized. There was once more meaning to them all. We don't have to be reminded to love...if we do there's a problem. Those sacred days were for celebration and I'm sorry they've made people feel forced into feeling a particular way on on a particular day.
