Mind Melt ~ OpenLinkNight ~ dVersePoets

Big ups to Ed Nix for the awesome photo! AKA @ametsound

Mind Melt

A not so gentle reminder of where we've been...where we're heading
at the mercy of the seasons
that stretch longer, colder, hotter, warmer
Oceans resist...
their waters
are one with earth
but we too are water
that resists and defies
reason...
we slip, slide,
cartoon like
arms flailing
toward the sharpened point
where what is real
and what is wanted
can no longer be denied.
and we begin to drip
drip, drip
as the thaw upends our rationale
and we are left to wade
knee deep
through the consequences.

It's OpenLinkNight and Brian Miller is the muscle behind the bar tonight at dVerse! He'll be opening the doors at 3pmEST, and once again, I find myself ready and waiting!

For those of you on twitter...check out @ametsound.  He's in insurance by day, but as this macro shot indicates...there's a keen eye just dying to bust out! And imagine his surprise to find he's suddenly being cyberstalked by a huge troop of poets! Sounds like fun to me! Oh...and did I mention he's an AWESOME Blue Noser too ;)

Unsettling thought, slipping and sliding "toward the sharpened point." Impalement awaits.

true that..the sun may move the water within us but we have to be willing to face the consequences...and they are always coming...the line between reality and desire too...nice draw of that...

I don't want to get stabbed with anything pointy
That would make my nose go out of umm joint-y
Or take it clean off
I would surely scoff
So that means I must not get caught
So consequences there are not..haha

Since I'm fascinated with the 20 million year old lake the Russians are drilling into and the implications of this endeavor, I see the apocalyptic in everything...coincidence I read your poem today? I don't think so...what water can do, so powerful...so dangerous. TY for this.

Tash, nice naturesque write with underlying metaphor-very nicely pieced and the structure really emulates the gorgeous picture. Great job. Thanks

The earth is mostly water, and so are we...well, with some it's mostly beer.
Knee deep in our consequences- we certainly will be. Great commentary on how we think we're invincible- that we're more than the earth, above it almost- but we're not- we,re bound to it- every cell in our body has been carved from it. And when things go belly up- only then will we realise and become grounded. What a sad inevitability.
lovely metaphor-- beautifully extended. Did you mean rationale? xxxj

nice analogy... like the movement of the poem

Another wonderfully powerful poem.

A punch in the gut to those who would like to look away from the thaw and forget.

I feel it covers more than just one political hot potato as well a a moral one.

Thanks for sharing :)

Lovely flowing poem...like water. Yes, we can be knee-deep (and probably will be at this rate) but it can also refresh & renew...let's hope. Great metaphor, great poem :)

I can't wait for spring! Fabulous piece to go with the equally fabulous pic.
and we are left to wade

I need some rain before I can slip slide into spring I think--Beautiful writing as always!

what a fab and profound write loved it ....thank you as always x
Great photo. Sobering thoughts to accompany it - and essential that we do think them.

Beautiful - I take my hat off to you and bow - this is so evocative and layered - each word is perfect and necessary

Nice use of metaphor..I like that we are water too ~

Dam...that clincher..wading knee deep through the consequences. I'll be thinking of that all week. You really hit a nerve with this piece. Many days I struggle with what I need versus what I want, the past and it's dangerous grip. thank you for this work of art!

I love this, Tash... especially:

That slipping and sliding is a darn good metaphor, to me, of how much is out of our control...and oh, that pointy thing...whoa! Life is filled with avoiding that pointy thing...but eventually....oh well... Original and thought provoking. Like it alot!

well done - I like the metaphor, well-developed...

I love "Mind Melt," another powerful one, you are getting so good at this! I think we both had water on our minds today, and maybe the global warming thing, too, eh? Near Kentucky Dam today I spotted a field of daffodils, early bloomers, sure, but Feb 7th!! Anywaze, Thanks for another wonderful poem! »^.,.^«

Consequences, always consequences. Funny how that is forgotten so often. Powerful message, strong metaphors and an amazing image.

I am so enjoying reading your work, watching your evolution, hearing your voice become as solid as water when it's ice. Your poetry is rich, vivid, dense with metaphors, and alive with images. Just getting better every time!

And we melt into our surroundings, becoming part of eveything...
I love your writing... the thoughts you give voice to are profound... your imagery vivid... moving us forward... to coming judgement... everything has a consequence : )

You are really capturing a vividly real aspect of human nature. I love the fluidity with which you express some very deep insights thru the metaphor of water. This is like being on the inside of water butbalso somehow looking in, like water - human soul - seekind and finding its true nature. There are many wonderful lines, the arc of these capture a crystalline clarity that is striking:

cartoon like
arms flailing
toward the sharpened point
where what is real
and what is wanted
can no longer be denied.

I really enjoyed this evocative piece. Very effective imagery throughout and the ending packs a real punch. Beautifully penned.

Nice one, tash--remember water wears away stone, and doesn't need to know its purpose--great personification and metaphor all the way, girl.

What Charles said, for sure. I loved the way you used the water metaphor in this one. Leads nicely to my fav, the punchline:

and we are left to wade
knee deep
through the consequences.

Indeed!

Nice restraint here Tash, which allows the irrationality to be exposed more forcefully..

'and we are left to wade
knee deep
through the consequences.'

These three lines really resonated with me.
Fantastic poem with real force behind it.

Interesting exploration of water as metaphore - in its incarnation as a solid, ice, and the "slip, slide" transition into liquid, towards the "sharpened point" of the icicle, the point of our lives. It's difficult with such a malleable choice of metaphor, to find consistency, but you've done well here with the ambiguity.

'Wade knee deep through the consequences'...awesome, you are a wonderful poet, explicit with your words. Happy to be here at the pub.

Insightful and brilliantly imagined. I love the intensity and economy of language expressed here. Great job Natasha.
Wow ... love these lines

"as the thaw upends our rationale
and we are left to wade
knee deep
through the consequences."

Thank God they're only knee high - I feel I'm swimming in my consequences at the moment....

Great job Tash <3
