The Flow ~ MeetingTheBar ~ dVersePoets

If silence were to be found easily
I would need not seek escape
within the dusty and cluttered confines
of a tired mind.

At the hands of the routine
or lack there of
the constant noise provides
constant rapids of chaos

White water running away
filtering, buffering, monitors
pointing directly at me
to be sure I do not miss my cue

Ah...there it is
lost beneath the rumble of reruns
a dog desperate to destroy ear drums
a child who cries hungry...but isn't

First a bubble
then a strand
liquid, molten, shaping to fit
moving obstacles
blocked thoughts
hidden ideas
until finally
inspiration is found
in the Flow.

Would you judge me if I told you I love to completely zone out to my lava lamp? Still glowing strong after all these years! Victoria asked us to capture a moment, feel the now, and considering I'm ending my day in typical fashion, thought I'd share with you MY trick for mind quiet. Give us a visit at dVerse where MeetingTheBar is in full swing. Are you up for the challenge?

No, I would not judge you! What a simply wonderful way to let your mind unwind and let go of the troubles and trials a day can present. Wonderful write, Tashtoo. I enjoyed it!

Very nice! I had to chuckle at the dog. There seems to be no shortage of dogs in today's offerings of poems in the moment. Including my own poem, I think there was a dog mentioned in at least 5 of the poems I've read. But then again, what would a moment - whether noisy or quiet - be without a dog. :) Peace, Linda

dogs and children ... I know all about those. And if lava lamps help you relax... GREAT. (It's better than TV!)

Lava lamp, now there's a blast from the past.
As good as layers of coloured sand changing shapes?
I'd forgotten about them.
You're lucky that you can't count planes flying over at one minute intervals as your mood disturbers.

Lava lamps, rain on a window, trains going by a crossing - I know that feeling! So glad you wrote about your day in such a wonderful way! Loved it!
I love lava lamps too, and I love your poem. Yes, we all need a quiet place - thanks for sharing yours.

I SO love this:

"Ah...there it is
lost beneath the rumble of reruns
a dog desperate to destroy ear drums
a child who cries hungry...but isn't"

And the whole last section, the lava lamp Flow metaphor. So awesome. :)

Your silent flow put me in a trance-like zone as well. I like the contrast between silence and chaotic noise and the hypnotic effect of the writing.

I like the rapids mentions. Reminded me of our last run down the Upper Gaulley(sp) river. Very nice. Never owned a lava lamp, but I visited a few and remember those moments, mostly, for some reason.
They were just made for the trance!

Who is there to judge? A lava lamp seems innocent enough. Full marks for finding that which works for you, and thanks for a great post.

Very clever! i'm not sure if knowledge of the lamp is needed to enjoy the poem! Describes universal difficulties. (And of course the lamp itself not much different from a flame.)

Take care, K.

A fine capture of a moment of escape. We all need to get away from the incessant over-stimulation of our contemporary environments sometimes - too much visual and aural noise is killing our sensitivity to what is really going on around us.

Hey I totally do the same thing to mine, just watching those blobs move up and down and then collide. I have a red one though, was going to get a blue one one day to give it some company but that day never happened, actually don't have the room for it right now, but one day perhaps. I like the green one here. Very cool. As is the piece, another excellent offering Tash. Thanks

That sounds like our house... Except for the dog. Or well, my little brother does well for a dog too with his wide variety of sounds. Nice poem =) And lava lamps, I always wanted one as a kid! Not so much now for some reason...

most use a bigger distraction... the TV... personally watching a fish tank is rather nice

Yes, I would believe you, Tash. There is something so hymnotic about a lava lamp, or anything like that. We do exist in a chaotic world and need something to help us focus...I do, anyway. Thanks for your help with comments.
