Purple Craves

Abstract 02 ~ Walter Smith

Cityscapes, countrysides, mountain looming, valley low
No matter how you try to decorate
the foundation remains the same.

Ground down, way down, lower than low
till the soul starts to burn
fireside, ember, hot rocks

from crumbling roaches where happiness died
alone she cried
but smiled for the world

this girl
from sand to pearl
decked out in purple

California dreaming down a rainbow road
heavy loads
lost to the layers of hallucination

the volume of a forced conversation
over powering, true self cowering
food supply rots, mourning milk souring

TOWERING
the layers, one after another
nothing real, touch, taste, feel

peel to reveal
they know your there
but with eyes wide

beyond mystified
lies the girl
with the purple pearl

she stands
where the pavement starts to crack
starving hearts with lack

Take it back
take it all
before this skin does start to crawl.

Going abstract for this Poetics write. Sheila Moore has shared the fantastic work of Walter Smith...and I fear another addiction. His work is AMAZING! Visit dVerse and tell me your pen has NOT been inspired!

Hmm. Interesting you should use the phrase "California dreaming," which reminds me (of course) of the '60s song... since the line "alone she cried" reminds me of a similar line, "alive, she cried," from yet another '60s song... which I'm betting you could name!

Beautiful verse Tash! 'No matter how you try to decorate the foundation remains the same' Very philosophical here! Most times we get led off and kept forgetting. But as long as the foundation stays we are protected and less open to risks!

Great poem you are awesome at writing!
Love the flow of this poem. So many strong images and phrases, I think my favorite has to be "starving hearts with lack"

the rhythm makes this for me...I want to feel the sadness, but there is a back beat that pushes this along...a sense of purpose...getting past something and the internal rhyming and symbolic coloring..all work so well

good stuff Ms. too

Peace ☮
Natasha, thank you for the wonderful compliments about my work. I really appreciate it. Your poem perhaps unknowingly has crossed many of the same themes I examine in my work; city scapes both beautiful and decaying; country landscapes infused with ambient light; abstract forms suggesting the ambiguities of life; portraits that run deep, and the love of colors. Including purple. I hope that you will spend time exploring both my digital art and video art. I certainly will be here immersing myself into your poetry.

I loved your poem "Purple Craves," you're not afraid to write about the hard things in life, you impress me greatly in this. When you take on the hard, emotional stings of life, I've also noted how you favor the triad form. I love this form, and have noticed not many contemporary poets are brave enough to attempt it. With your courage to embrace the hard, unpleasant parts of life using a difficult form, you show great strength in your writing, and your work shines from it. I truly enjoy reading you, and I always feel like I took away a benefit. Thank you.

The kaleidoscope of terror brings up the abysd that often opens at the edge of self-awarenesd. These images seen as passing from horror to soul as mere phantoms of mind seeking completion in color or mystery or dying forever to world, sense, others. Where do we go when the world seems to dissolve into just so much dream or illusion?

I can feel myself in a smoke filled room as you rock the crowd with this spoken truth! The lyrical play is awesome. So many places hit home for me. Another example of the genius you possess!
