Ashamed ~ #OpenLinkNight @dVersePoets
These rolling hills at one time provided shelter
a safe passage through cumbersome trails
where one could find a leaning post
while the purity of rain
washed away our scent
from predators who roamed freely
not burdened by chain link
nor caged by barbwire
At one time we denied
WE were the predators
Still we continued
with our chopping, cutting
scalping, slaying
content to take
to rape
and plunder.
And so our legacy grew
attracting the concerned glare
of our slumbering mother
as we prepare to watch her bleed-out
denying death at our hands
Defined by imagined borders
we now bicker among ourselves
demanding our way be accepted.
Bullying, belittling
like the very monsters we claim to stand against.
With no respect for the ways of another
the culture of a civilization
we insist our ways are the only ways
for we are the educated
the civilized
Do you hear her laughing?
How much longer can you ignore it?
YOU are no better
YOU are no braver
YOU are the reason
the monsters win
and the mountains remain content to slumber
for mother has determined
WE are not worth saving.
Ashamed to be human
with all tears depleted
My love~fest has fractured
my "army" defeated.
I enjoyed an awesome rest over the weekend (meaning lots of time to ponder) and I'm back, ready and waiting for OpenLinkNight at dVersePoets. The pub's bound to be hopping...hope you'll consider joining in.

like the very monsters we claim to stand against.
With no respect for the ways of another" -
so unfortunately too often true, but, for me, not totally -
or we wouldn't know why there's a shame...
so from that, hope has sent its cry
best wishes, glad you've recovered, and glad to see your lines, passioned recognitions indeed!
thank you much!
So very well said, Tash.
It's grim, but nicely expressed here.
stings like a bitch, a rhetorical statement, like answering the inquiry, "Does this dress make me look fat?"
"from predators who roamed freely
not burdened by chain link
nor caged by barbwire"
and i am afraid, too true!
wonderful writing if a frightening topic.

I hear her laughing, all the time, through her tears.
And yet, perhaps foolishly, I hold onto hope.
