Bedrest ~ #OpenLinkNight @dVersePoets

Sometimes, when we insist on the drive
The push for more
Divine intervention is necessary
Call it God
Or call it your gut
But when you get true to self
You discover
Sometimes time is all you really need.

Fear can creep up on you in the wee hours
When you’re alone
With only shadows to bear witness.
When reality suddenly appears
Through a split-screen
And despite the rolling waves of nausea
And the racing of the mind that comes with NOT knowing
You see the you you want to be
And know a change is coming.

Isolation, solitude
The rare ability to find the quiet
When wallpaper flowers dance
And tears soak your pillow
Clarity can occur
Wrapped within the confines of madness
They don’t know
They never will
As they have no desire for truth
Content in the comfort of the lie
We all live with.

Ignorance is bliss
When you can make the world all about you
Separate from the whole it is
Denying your place
For the sake of the person you profess to be
Some of us dance on the lower rungs
Enjoying the frivolity of the play
Exit stage left
While the chorus line hides

This spotlight shines for you, you know
Center stage
Bright enough you need not lend your gaze
To the suffering audience
You refuse to let leave.
The only encores
The ones bouncing off the walls of your mind.

Seriously universe...you can stop playing with me this way. You may have taken me out for my long weekend, but I'll not be missing OpenLinkNight. Brian Miller is manning the pub tonight and I have every intention of being there! Flu be gone!

Nice piece, Tash. Hope you feel better soon :)
These lines really hit me:

"When reality suddenly appears
Through a split-screen
And despite the rolling waves of nausea
And the racing of the mind that comes with NOT knowing
You see the you you want to be
And know a change is coming."

This was fantastic - and done while having the flu? Sheeit! You got more talent than most on their best day! Loved it.

Such a great introspective piece! Hope you feel better though.

Yes, fear can definitely creep up on you in those dark hours in the middle of the night. I like the words 'dancing on the lower rungs" which is so expressive. I do think that the flu CAN play with one's mind, but certainly has not hindered your ability to write a strong poem! Get well.

"With only shadows to bear witness"

The usual situation for those who labor by the light of imagination...I much enjoyed reading this Tash. It's a favorite. I hope you're on the mend.

This one really speaks to me. I know that awful/wonderful space where the busyness disappears and reality rears its head. So sorry for the forced down time - hoping that change you see coming is good.

I hear the sneezes hidden in your words here.. hope that darned flu passes SOON!

But seriously, "When reality suddenly appears
Through a split-screen" were lines that were truly AWESOME (among many others, I can assure you)..
Brave words! I have flu too, so I take heart from them. In my case the injunction to rest allows me to wander these poetry blogs and enjoy.

Love the idea of a captive audience. Hope you're feeling better in the real world, too.

Yeah it is such a pain
Makes you want to pop a vein
For it won't go away
Letting your mind spin night and day
Hope all gets well soon
Seems everyone is out of tune

Sometimes illness, forced solitude does lend a kind of clarity to our introspective moments. It may be uninvited...but there it is, and we deal with it...split screen and all. Like this piece alot, Tash. Hope the flu leaves soon..but this is a really good write!
A careful and compelling write, Natasha-- words to live by...xxxj

I am so glad to read your words again and hope that you start feeling better soon.

I can relate to the loneliness that sickness can bring. I've had to make friends with the shadows because for awhile they were all I had. Awesome write!

oh, summer colds are the worst. A few pints of poetry ought to do the trick tho :) Awesome write Tash,Fear can creep up on you in the wee hours
When you’re alone
With only shadows to bear witness. These lines struck me particularly, really it's truly amazing how if you got things going on inside, it's funny how easily you'll find a line or two, a stanza or simply a word, that will resonate and they may not always heal or assist you completely the way you'd hope they would, but they always remind you of the connection poets share and that you're not alone in whatever is going on in or outside. Strong piece. Get well.

One thing about your poetry is that you never write about anything unless you are able to explore its depths; there is no superficiality here, only a philosophical exposition. Good job!
When wallpapers dance - happens more than I would like. Wonderful piece of writing. Hope you feel better soon!

Now I partially see why you responded to my words so strongly. Your lines "they don't know, they never will" are so imbued with sorrow, that isolation we both seem to be working through. I'd like to reassure you, that some of us DO know, and we can support each other through the pain and the changes that will come.

I love the un-named metaphor - getting out, out of a blue funk, and moving through space and time - out of the head lights and into the spot lights. You have to be the "star" of your own movie - no one should be the pal-friend. Excellent.

"clarity can happen wrapped in the confines of madness"
Yep.
That is poetry my friend.
As usual, you leave me inspired to dig deep in my own writing.
Thank you!
"Content in the comfort of the lie we all live in," YES! Sometimes it takes some sick time to contemplate the bigger picture, so at least there's one up side to your illness. Hope you are on the mend, but even sick, you write a hell of a poem, girl! Peace, Amy

I've had those nights of shadows and wall paper flowers dancing.

But I'm mostly pretty-good now. :)

The wise ones say we have all we need, always.

And guess who is Next In Line for one of my fabulous Jannie-made "Awesome Blogger" friendship buttons?? YOU!!!!! Yours will be the next one to appear at the top of my sidebar. In the next day or 2. Thinking The Bluenose II might make a great button. And I hear it's being refurbished?

There is always a sense of unreality involved with sickness and bed, isn't there?

Hope you feel better soon.
