Wait and See What Comes

There you go.
Fight over.
You win.
Happy now?

Caught, ensnared
wrapped so tight in your gossamer threads
spun silken around this heart.
I wouldn't call it defeat

Just a simple admission
that my ways are too soft to hurt you.
That's not what I want.

I need your love
and as long as I do
I know I'll forever be trapped.

Accepting my fate now,
so things should get better.
No more pleas for release
No more midnight discussions on the state of my being
What are wishes
if not simply unrealized dreams?
I dare not attempt this life without wishes.
That would be too cruel.

Ready to follow orders,
shelve the dreams
and moving forward

we'll wait and see what comes.

Sucks to have to give in
And follow to win
Or concede in the least
Sometimes that's the nature of the beast

this hurts...a bit like being broken to the will of another and willing to give it up...but we each have to make a decision in life on what is important and what we will compromise on....

I do like the idea that wishes are unrealized dreams. Oh yes, I think a lot of us can empathize with wishes. And one thing I wish for is that they come to pass or (second best) that we change our wishes! I appreciate greatly your gut-level writing. It is a gift!

Oh, that smirk!

Oh, I too teared up in empathy. I admire your emotional honesty.

the compromises of love... they make us, they break us, they take us to another level.
it's never easy, but hey, it's love.
There are so many emotions here, but the overriding one I sense is the resignation to the inevitability of the situation. Only in the last line is there hope, thanks

This feels nearly painful to me. I want a shift in attitude, a refusal to be minimized. But then, wait! I am reminded that through humility, through the act of intentionally humbling ourselves, we learn some of the universe's greatest lessons. And then I said, "Well done."

The inevitable feels so sad. Hurts me to read because I was just thinking about that the other day. Compromises are not fun.

I believe in compromise, there has to be equality and compromise in any relationship. It can't last if it is all give on one side and all take on the other. Being too soft is a good thing but, not being submissive to keep someone at the expense of your own self esteem.
I hope this is poetry and not yourself Tash. You know your own mind of course if this is describing yourself and you know what is best for you too but, don't sell your self short just to keep someone. No-one ought to shelve their dreams, our dreams are what jeeps hope alive. Darn.

This is so sad! It feels raw and real. Good write, Tash!
Sad, but good. You just keep getting stronger. A very good write...I thirst for more.

Can't tell you how much this speaks to my state of being right now. Is compromise the act of giving up one's own wishes? I hate to think so, but but sure feeling that way at the moment. So here's to realizing our own strengths and pursuing our dreams!

A very moving and authentic poem Natasha. It is honest, heart-felt and illustrates perfectly the cages we create for ourselves. Often the bars are wide enough to step through, but we choose to remain incarceratd.Hugs.

What a wonderful and poignant investigation of the nature of attachments. This inner looks shows what we all know--things aren't always as they seem. Wishes and disappointments: two different sides of a coin.

my ways are too soft to hurt you.

Man oh man, I can identify with this one. So sad, beautifully written, and so much vulnerability behind the little bit of attitude in the "Happy now?"

I must confess that this pissed me off, Tash. Giving in, shelving dreams, accepting fate-- NO! I know our writing need not be autobiographical, but we all know that aspects of our lives bleed into our words. Even if this is pure fantasy, I reject the premise, because I could not live like that. A strong piece all the same.

Oh, Tash! I hope this is from your imagination and not your reality. It is painful to read of people giving up their dreams, which are so much a part of our identities.
Rachel Hoyt said…
Oh wow. I've been at that place and hope this was written from imagination. I definitely cannot live my life without dreams and I eventually had to break free to keep them alive.

Such powerful opening lines! Great write.

Been there and still caught in the limbo of turning away. The line about being too soft to hurt is incredibly real. I wonder if ending the fight unresolved was the right thing all around but would winning have gained anything? Acceptance is difficult.

This resounded with me.
