Fly With Me ~ #Poetry by @Tashtoo

Who told you, you were not beautiful?
By what authority do they speak?
Why would you lend your ear
To a voice that strips you of your worth?
I think you beautiful,
Though no authority do I claim.

Why do you hide?
Do you think this mask better represents
The you they wish to see?
It will never fit
Will only serve to prove their argument.
Your truth is blinding
Your heart…even more so.

Can I, for just a moment, hold your hand.
Feel the truth of your light
Despite your insistence it is not there.
I feel it…no matter how quickly
You pull away.

So much you have given me.
Can you not learn from your own lessons?
I was buried alive
Nearly died
Until you helped me rise.

Fingers raw, nails bent and broken
As you dug through the shadows
Tempted my truth.

And now your hands bear the scars
Still, you don’t complain.
Shrug it off like it was nothing…

But it was me…suddenly free
You promised you would teach me to fly
But I fear
My shadows have swallowed you whole.

Who told you you were not beautiful?
Who told you you had to hide?
I am here because you saved me
And the debt must be repaid.

Fly with me
Or die with me.

I’m addicted to your light.

I'm up WAY early for OpenLinkNight at dVersePoets...that's not a bad thing...right? Tuesday 3pmEST we'll be expecting you ;)

Now that was excellent! The speaker encourages someone's who is quite a lucky person! If this "lucky person" exists in reality, I'm sure he or she would be incredibly encouraged by those words.

I meant "someone," not "someone's," dammit! That'll teach me not to proofread before hitting "publish!"

so poignant...so many struggle with how they look or some screwed view of beauty...love how you really pick the pace up as well...and the wanting to 'be with' them...its one thing to tell someone something...a whole other to walk life or fly with them...what an encouragement tash...

my you are early...haha...

hope your week is starting off great...

Really great write
As one should not worry about sight
Just wanting to be there
Because is all one needs a their lair

absolutely stunning. this definitely stuck a chord in me. I particularly liked the idea behind that by providing you with the strength to fly your flight's shadow keeps the one your speaking to grounded.
Oh, this is incredible. I read it aloud, and it was lovely! ♥ :)

"Fly with me
Or die with me.

I’m addicted to your light."

Oh Tash, this is wonderful. So emotional, so poignant, so real. It's not always the apparent lack of external beauty that we hold against ourselves; some of us struggle to see anything of worth in our inner being too.

agreed, very emotional - encouraging but also slight sadness. beautiful work.

wow..powerful write tash..beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and sometimes those that shine not so much themselves help others shine...love that you put them equal, the flying together...strong close

You speak with such authority here! I can definitely imagine it read aloud, powerfully.

Absolutely love the last lines...love them
Beautiful, Tash! Each and every person is a work of art both inside and out, and yet mankind has always tried to place one attribute above or below the other. Silly humans.

What a beautiful statement to those who can't see their beauty for the judgement placed upon them by other's eyes...Love hearing you read it!!!

awe. i'm not very good at making elaborate comments, only feeling with my feelers, and they perked up at this. thank you so much for the feeling. i just feel an "awe" for someone special that deserves to feel special. i feel it. i really feel it. and to me? that's everything. (this is disastress from wordpress).

I worked with several teen girls in spring... they were pretty messes up... we play a contemporary song about being beautiful... after the song I did a face to face and told them each of them were beauty... you would not believe the tears... great topic and write.

This was so very moving and touching. I have always loved the sincerity in which you write, and the honesty of your words. And I always enjoy your voice. The plea to encourage is very real. I'm sure the message was delivered. Excellente.

"Feel the truth of your light
Despite your insistence it is not there." how blessed we all would be to have a friend hold our hand and tell us this. I did when I was young, and again and again at times I felt the light had gone out... if only it were so for every one lost in self denial of inner beauty, true beauty.

I love how this questions the crazy way others view beauty... I love how this poem made me feel!!

Natasha, this is an awesome piece of work! Very much one of my favorites of yours. There is joy and pain in this...I can feel it as I read it. Thank you for this!

The person the narrator is speaking to sounds exceptional. I hope they listen.

And btw, Congrats on your Pushcart nomination!

A song for all who strive, for all who don't believe, for all who fear, for everyone (tout le monde) because the repetition of this anthem strengthens self-image, encourages adventure, strengthens talent, and yields ingenuity, art, beauty, inventions, explorations, novelty, expansions of consciousness. Criticism (in the negative) only reduces the likelihood of those creations! Well said!

Being one of the ruggedly handsome men, I got over feeling envy regarding the beautiful men out there. As an actor I found the majority of them to be gay, and caught up in their looks. Good ten years for me. My dance card was always full. Women carry the best of their beauty under wraps, letting it show only through a look, a touch, a smile. Your poem gets us thinking, and that's not a bad thing, right?

i dont think i have ever heard you speak Tash but i feel like i know your voice, well now i do and i loved hearing your reading. It really brought something and opened the work up: a great message to send out . . . sounding great too! :D

Anyone who might feel inadequate would be empowered by these words even if they are specific to one.

...i am glad for all i thought this would end sad but no.... not too sad... just enough to achieve justice for once... i think this poem/the voice wailing inside's aiming for respect which is now hardly to get... a real affirmation of beauty in its real essence... excellent NH... smiles...

What do I say?? brilliant and to hear you speak it even better :)

Loved the read. Gave it a whole new feel I would have missed otherwise.
Very kind words to your depressed friend == may your words stick and fill their pessimism and lighten them, like your words.

Very kind, grateful. Keep up the kindness!
She saved you and now you'll return the favor- a fight worth fighting, a friend worth having.
