Fly With Me ~ #Poetry by @Tashtoo
Who told you, you were not beautiful?
By what authority do they speak?
Why would you lend your ear
To a voice that strips you of your worth?
I think you beautiful,
Though no authority do I claim.
Why do you hide?
Do you think this mask better represents
The you they wish to see?
It will never fit
Will only serve to prove their argument.
Your truth is blinding
Your heart…even more so.
Can I, for just a moment, hold your hand.
Feel the truth of your light
Despite your insistence it is not there.
I feel it…no matter how quickly
You pull away.
So much you have given me.
Can you not learn from your own lessons?
I was buried alive
Nearly died
Until you helped me rise.
Fingers raw, nails bent and broken
As you dug through the shadows
Tempted my truth.
And now your hands bear the scars
Still, you don’t complain.
Shrug it off like it was nothing…
But it was me…suddenly free
You promised you would teach me to fly
But I fear
My shadows have swallowed you whole.
Who told you you were not beautiful?
Who told you you had to hide?
I am here because you saved me
And the debt must be repaid.
Fly with me
Or die with me.
I’m addicted to your light.
I'm up WAY early for OpenLinkNight at dVersePoets...that's not a bad thing...right? Tuesday 3pmEST we'll be expecting you ;)

As one should not worry about sight
Just wanting to be there
Because is all one needs a their lair
"Fly with me
Or die with me.
I’m addicted to your light."
wonderful. just wonderful. i enjoyed hearing you read it... what a great poem.
Despite your insistence it is not there." how blessed we all would be to have a friend hold our hand and tell us this. I did when I was young, and again and again at times I felt the light had gone out... if only it were so for every one lost in self denial of inner beauty, true beauty.
And btw, Congrats on your Pushcart nomination!
i dont think i have ever heard you speak Tash but i feel like i know your voice, well now i do and i loved hearing your reading. It really brought something and opened the work up: a great message to send out . . . sounding great too! :D
Very kind words to your depressed friend == may your words stick and fill their pessimism and lighten them, like your words.
Very kind, grateful. Keep up the kindness!
"anyway" ;-)
i still want to say, your last line, "i'm addicted to your light" is so filled with possibilities, i really like it!
thanks so much tash!
