La vie dans un rêve

You tease me with your words
knowing my addiction, coupled with my inability to understand
raises my pulse
it has nothing to do with the accent

"Voulez-vous faire un tour?" (would you like to take a stroll)

My mind scrambles
masculine, feminine,
an elementary education comes up short
and your smirk makes my heart race even faster

"a toi, pour toujours" (yours forever)

So much easier to believe a lie
when it's wrapped up in the language of love
tighter than my hand is wrapped in yours.

An adventure over cobbled streets
unattended, alone
nothing more than the sound of your voice to lend direction
your patience commendable, your purpose all too clear

"Il n'y a qu'un bonheur dans la vie, c'est d'aimer et d'être aimé" (There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved)

I suppose I can pretend
Deny that this is nothing more than a dream
as your words slip beyond the realms of understanding
a weekend ~ stolen from the seconds that have been spoken for

this...my
La vie dans un rêve (life in a dream)

My apologies if google translate did not serve my purpose well, but when you're asked to write incorporating another language...it's a tad bit difficult. 11 years of French lessons should have produced something a little more solid...but memory serves me better in conversations, and...when one considers my typos and poor spelling in English...what chance did I stand ;)

Wow, Tash... this is great!

I'm with you on the language. I took years of French and today could probably not hold a conversation in it.

Sometimes I think I would believe anything that was said to me in French.

"So much easier to believe a lie
when it's wrapped up in the language of love" -- Yes!

Great incorporations tash. Love the way you used your foreign tongue here, definitely added to the feel. Also, I think many of us are at the mercy of Google Translate. I actually have 4 apps that are translate apps and Google's actually typically comes out the best of them all. Loved the piece.

I think you hit on a universal truth here...we all live dreams to a certain extent. And life is a journey to unravel them.

Very lovely English and French verses weaving together ~ My hubby and daughter speaks this language beautifully while I am bad..he.he..

A lie when its wrapped in the language of love, specially foreign words is hard to detect ~

The lines about lies being easier to believe when wrapped up in the language of love are really, really powerful.

Loved reading this. If I had used the language I learned at school, Claudia would have had a really, really good laugh!

This was a lovely, lovely stories told so beautifully we forgive the lie.

Same here, my french lessons do not serve me well. I struggle and feel at lost when people speak too fast in French...I prefer reading French, at least I understand the full story.

"So much easier to believe a lie
when it's wrapped up in the language of love" - Wow, isn't that the truth! And, I like the way you weaved that insecurity throughout because doesn't the vulnerability of love leave us all a little more exposed than we'd like to be? :)

For once, Google Translate behaved itself! I enjoyed your poem very much. It conjured up a romantic scene, and I do hope he was sincere and not just trying it on!

OK, everyone else likes it too. but, it's a great line.

Tash this was beautiful, like a gorgeous and stylish foreign film. And you made me smile with your elementary French - masculine or feminine, I can never remember either!

This is absolutely beautiful. French always blows me away although I'd never know how to pronounce the words here they just.. Look beautiful! :)

Your stanza about lies is absolutely powerful. You truly have a way with words

I think you did a great job with the French - and the English. You're right about lies (though they can be wrapped in beautiful eyes too.) k.

Oh...I'd fall for the language of love in French... in a heartbeat. Very nice dreams indeed.

I thought it was lovely and my Texas based French lessons allowed me to read "just fyyne thank you". (English still deserts me half the time ... here "time" rhymes with "calm" as in tahhhmm to git up - ha!)

I did this dance/walk in Italy once upon a time, a language that I think so much more passionate than French--but to each their own little fantasy world. Well questioned and shaped and left for us to comb our own lives with . . .
