No Expectations ~ #Poetry

Lay down your burdens
I promise...my shoulders are strong enough to bear the weight.
You know as well as I do
You hold it inside
you die.

Cast off your troubles
Looking back keeps you bleeding
slow...painful
until somewhere
you forget yourself
convince yourself
they were of your own making

Sometimes good things end
Sometimes we hang on so hard they sour
Every day a battle
as we cling to what was lost without notice
caught up in life
left wondering why.

and really
who's to say what good passes us by
as we wallow
swallowing the fabricated blame
we place on ourselves in the search for answers.

We forfeit so much of who we are in our hunt
expecting it all to somehow make sense.
It never does...it never will.
Our own minds guarantee it.
The enemy dwells within.

Are you strong enough to silence him.
Or will he win?
How much are you willing to miss?

Gearing up for OpenLinkNight over at dVersePoets with a muse who has been terribly distracted as of late. Also gearing up for the release of "Pulse" which will be available at all major online retailers March 6th.

This reminds me so much of situations in my life that I have had to let go of. It's so hard sometimes, and just when you think you are free, something happens to remind ou of them and it's almost back to square one.

so much....we cant see it in that moment...so self consumed...and we do lose much of ourselves in the hunt as well....we have to be careful we dont lose it all...

We forfeit so much of who we are in our hunt expecting it all to somehow make sense.

This should be given to every single person on this planet before they become anywhere near an adult so that they avoid this temting trap that so many of us fall into.

A truly powerful piece that I connected with very easily.

Congrats on the book being published. Pulse is one fantastic name. A double live album from Pink Floyd is called Pulse, so your book has a lot to live up to ;-)

This is a pertinent piece for today... and for me. Wow, you nailed it! This is a 1,2 punch with truth and reality. Love these... I know, love it all but this hit me.

Congrats on the book! So want to peek! And the prose - for me: Looking back keeps you bleeding...oh that is worth considering!

You have to take a little to give a little... and vice versa...
"We forfeit so much of who we are in our hunt
expecting it all to somehow make sense."

This is always the challenge - trying to assess the risk before the undertaking . Great poem here, and congrats on your book!

What good passes us by as we wallow in the past--so true, Natasha. If only the wallowers could understand that it's like an old carnival booth I used to see where you were allowed to "shoot until you win."

Right brain monkey perches on right shoulder parroting the edicts from the inner imp--Bullshit Guilt. Your poem fleshes out nicely, suggesting we get on with it, forgive ourselves, recognize that humanity is imperfect, rife with foibles--and that only through fellowship & sharing do we really stand on the shoulders of giants.

For me a very cogent and deep look at how we can make ourselves ill, bring illness upon ourselves - in the widest sense. Powerful work...

Powerful as always. So strong. I like how you've personified insecurity here because its so true that the battle within ourself to forgive and let go is the biggest battle we may ever experience in life. Rock on Natasha. Always strong beat to the last word.

Yes, I always blame myself, greatest fault. I identified easily. Another great poem. And, well. Have a good night.

excellent and thought-provoking as always Tash ... especially towards the end ...

I'm not going to pretend I knew about your book until now but since so many are congratulating you, I will certainly add my kudos to theirs!

Wallowing definitely holds us back...it's like spinning our wheels. A life free from expectations is a free life. Like what you said here...cool.

Such powerful questions here.... expecting it all to somehow make sense... Yes, we learn, eventually, that most times, it does not. But some days I think that making sense is overrated.

Congrats on the book!

So much sage advice in this, Tash. Congrats on your upcoming book. Proud of you.

I know I've had moments (too long) where I've let the good pass me by for dwelling on the bad. A lot of universal feelings expressed here, I'd suspect.

A good study on how our minds make connections to possible unrelated events only to personalize them, attribute them back to us, own the guilt. Strong write.

Congratulations on the book Tash! A beautiful poem as well.

We forfeit so much of who we are in our hunt
expecting it all to somehow make sense.
It never does...it never will.
Our own minds guarantee it.
The enemy dwells within.

Expecting everything to make sense is a trap we fall into, sometimes we just have to let go and give up that control.

Tash, the third stanza says it all for me. Having expectations is a sure fire set up for failure. I see congrats are in order for your book, Congrats!
