Jack in the Green ~ #Poetics @dVersePoets
Winter's steely clutch begins to loosen
You can smell him waking
earth, the scent of the cold season's casualties
gone to ground
a birthing bed
as he rises from his slumber.
It is the ancient heat of Cernunnos rising
Wild god of the forest
Pan's flute sings throughout blossoming limbs
tangling roots
mad May Day frenzy
and fairies gather to serenade
Old lovers return to the wilds of their youth
as desire springs
Young maidens blush
as young bucks prance
and dare to dance
their mating colours on show
Alive in the spirit
frantic in the fever
as nests are forgotten
feathered for a season who's time has come.
Seeds are planted in the promise of harvest
legends reborn in the haze of red dawn
as the final epitaphs are written
and the lost soldiers are sent forth
their ghosts honored
as the ivy crawls the walls.
