Jack in the Green ~ #Poetics @dVersePoets

Winter's steely clutch begins to loosen
You can smell him waking
earth, the scent of the cold season's casualties
gone to ground
a birthing bed
as he rises from his slumber.

It is the ancient heat of Cernunnos rising
Wild god of the forest
Pan's flute sings throughout blossoming limbs
tangling roots
mad May Day frenzy
and fairies gather to serenade

Old lovers return to the wilds of their youth
as desire springs
Young maidens blush
as young bucks prance
and dare to dance
their mating colours on show

Alive in the spirit
frantic in the fever
as nests are forgotten
feathered for a season who's time has come.

Seeds are planted in the promise of harvest
legends reborn in the haze of red dawn
as the final epitaphs are written
and the lost soldiers are sent forth
their ghosts honored
as the ivy crawls the walls.

Love this spring fevered poem, Tash. From the wild god to the fairies to the lovers- a wonderful vision of the green season! K

Tash - this is wonderful. Especially the close which I found very moving - the lost soldiers sent forth in spring. Very lovely - and the birthing bed of the season too All a whole. k.

I love the ending with the climbing ivy life/death contrast.

What a complete poetry of the coming of spring... and I love the fairy.

Great lines. Had a gothic accent to the voice today of the rebirth green. Very nice. I could use some spring. We do not always see or think of the dramtics involved in the change of season.

This one really cranks, Nat; for green conjures so much more than Irish history & charm; rebirth, fecundity, mother nature with oil flowing from both battered breasts, things of gestation pressing against the muds of March; and like others, I really dig the serious segue of the last stanza; so cool, so bang on, so full of hope without letting go of some sarcasm.

So many wonderful lines here. This brought imagery of a Midsummer Night's Dream and whimsical spring filled days. Love all of it!

I feel like I was in Narnia in Spring for a second. I like this - you capture intense happiness well - maybe that's the trick :)

Oh how I hope your promise of Spring is fulfilled. A very atmospheric re-creation of re-birth.

Beautiful imagery that brings happy spring thoughts. My favorite line was 'old lovers returning to the wilds of their youth.'

Their ghosts honored as the ivy crawls the walls ... I like that. Thanks Tashtoo.

The ivy may well crawl as it honors what is past, some good and some scary. Beautiful details.

Really nice. I like the close, the growth of the ivy inevitable as time.
