Time

Always so relevant.  I live my life a second at a time, counting each and every one. Rushing to get here, speeding to get there, sometimes with no direction, sometimes without a care.  Watching so closely, one would think it would draaaaaag.

Flying through space, imagining disastrous consequences should I not make it in time.  Constantly feeling like it's the fight of all fights, full combat and fright, the strength to survive the night. In the darkness, the ticking of its hands become thunderous.

It is the innocence and blushing urges of the maiden, not really knowing how, yet in juvenile stubbornness insisting on moving forward, convinced there are seconds to spare as she races towards infinity.

It is the desire to tend to the nest, as Mother ensures all but herself are tended to...there are only so many hours in a day.

It is the wisdom of the crone...watching years fall away like minutes, knowing it all amounts to life...and legacy.

Still, the clocks are internal. Set by a time keeper who shall remain nameless. For to breathe the name results in only chaos...and we've not the time to right our wrongs.

far too many forget to care for themselves once they have children...and that is so hard...and can backfire as well making you ineffective all the way around...i am usually early...but being late doesnt freak me out too bad...love the mysticism you dip into there in the last stanza as well...

Wow, Tash....I live my life a second time and a third. And yes, in the darkness the ticking of the hands of time are thunderous indeed. We can't stop them as we rush onward. You mentioned 'years fall away like minutes.' This is what I feel so often. Where does a life go?

Time means so much to some and nothing to others. And, everything is governed by time.
Some good thinking going on here which created a good poem.

Great creative thought, the thundering ticks of time passing. Nive analogies and metaphors throughout. Superb!

Ohhhh--you used maiden, mother and crone too--and so much nicer than mine. Well done!

Nicely done, Tash. I'm the crone, watching those minutes disappear, realizing we have only the present.

I get that panicky feeling sometimes, too... like I'm going to be late, but for what? Standards I've set for myself? If I'm not to careful, I'll spend the day in a rush, and I don't like that feeling. This is hreat, Tash.

Great response to the prompt. I certainly relate - to the moms whose time goes for everybody else, and to the crone who wonders where the heck it all went so fast........I love the form you chose, too.......intriguing.

Excellent - superb - years do indeed fall away like minutes ... and children grow up so quickly... mine a grown yet I still see the children inside

Really interest piece, Natasha, each verse feeling like a clockwise tick. I like the dramatic presence you've put into every sway of motion. Love the stillness and assurance at the end, that the clock is internal and in the comfort of questions unanswered.

there are only so many hours in a day...true that...and we should try to spend them wisely, care for the others but also for ourselves...
Still, the clocks are internal. Set by a time keeper who shall remain nameless...love that
You hit the nail on the head with this one, Tash! The world is spinning way too fast, and we all get caught up in it. Awesome write!

I hope to remember the wisdom of the crone - not to let it slip away! Beautifully written. K

Terrific pacing here, as you carry us through the time of a life, setting the spotlight on that which matters most at each stage. Life is but a play, is it not?
wonderful take on the prompt! feeling the rush, the urgency.
great write, Natasha!
